Fade In…

It's a nice sunny afternoon in Brooklyn. Spanning two empty townhouse lots, a small tended park has popped up between 1940s-era brick-laden apartment buildings. Surrounded on three sides by brick multi-story buildings, the tiny park has become a gathering point for people wanting some shade or nature amidst the concrete jungle. Though the area isn't large, it isn't packed today, either. Some mothers talk gossip beside a primarily african america band playing street music in the back of lot. Across the street there are some restaurants.

Lily is out and about today, keeping as low a profile as possible. Which obviously means soaking in the sunlight in a public area while monching on some still-bleeding rare steak she acquired from across the street. She's stolen a park bench not far from the band, a tree nearby providing shade to part of the table. In the street, some kids are playing with a backetball.

In between college, professional sports and charity work Bette Kane doesn't usually have a lot of time to herself. Which is why every now and again she takes the time to take a little walk in a park. And Brooklyn is just far enough away from her usual haunts she doesn't even need to disguise herself making it the ideal break spot.

Bette has opted for something casual, simple jeans and a t-shirt, and idly walks down the path with only an occasional pause to enjoy an icecream picked up from a nearby store.

*

Walking along the same park Lily is in, Scandal has dressed casually today and is out enjoying the day. She's got on a pair of simple jeans and a crop top that leaves her belly exposed in white. She has a drink in her hand as she walks toward the area where Lily has sat. She tilts her head as she spots the woman who seems to be sorta doing nothing special and yet she is something special, standing out easily.

Scandal might look the part of a mid-twenties girl, she's far older and considers Lily. She's heard of such a woman before and honestly wonders if this is her. It's often not wise to make assumptions but someone like Lily is rather a unique description to receive. She makes her way toward Lily and stops in front of her before saying, "Hey there." She considers the woman a moment, "You certainly stand out." She then offers her hand, "Scandal. Scandal Savage."

*

Lily looks up from the last couple bites of steak, neatly cut into cubes, as someone walks in front of her table. Her expression shifts from vaguely annoyed to quizzical at the woman addressing her and offering introductions. Has someone recognized her? She examines the hand presented to her, swallowing her food. "I don't touch people unless they're paying me to," she quips with a wink. "But I think I could give you a discount."

The band switches set in the background, and the children yell "Car!", moving to the sidewalk to let the car pass.

As Bette ambles through the park it doesn't take the finely tuned senses of a part time superhero to spot Scandal talking to a fairly tall green lady. She pauses and waves, both to Scandal and her green friend, before ambling close enough to greet "Hello again Scandal dear, I hope you and my cousin both had fun at that party the other week?"

*

A blink at that and Scandal pulls her hand back, "If you say." She nods her head before saying, "I appreciate the idea but I don't p ay for such things." She shakes her head and grins a little before saying, "I would ask your name but I bet I might guess it." She chuckles a little, "You aren't exactly one to be missed, Lily."

She then glances over toward Bette and smiles wider, "Oh I'm sure." She chuckles and nods her head at Bette, giving her a small grin and saying, "I do hope you found your own fun at the party." She then glances over at Lily and then says, "Bette, right?"

*

Oh, damn. She has been recognized. "I hope my appearance didn't give it away." She chuckles and shoves another bite of steak into her mouth as Bette ambles over. There is the brief temptation to just dart off and flee, but there's not really any immediate danger here. "You two know each other? I'm afraid I don't recognize either of you."

*

"We met for a few minutes at a party over in Gotham," Bette explains with a laugh. "My cousin was very intent on spending more time with Scandal. I hope she didn't get too pushy." She shrugs and takes another bite out of her icecream. "Not a big tennis fan I take it? Bette Kane, it's a pleasure to meet you."

*

A fake gasp and Scandal places a hand on her chest, "You mean my reputation doesn't procede me?" She chuckles and then looks over at Bette and nods, "A fun little adventure." She then looks back to Lily, "Oh, it wasn't your appearance. It was your charm, I'm sure." She nods to Lily before saying, "As I said, Scandal Savage, though just Scandal is fine." She looks again to Bette and nods to her, "How have you been since?"

*

"Well, I am quite charming. Glad someone noticed." Lily remarks flatly, finishing her last bite of the steak. The paper plate is summarily crunched into a little ball. Her eyes cast over to Bette, scanning the woman and she shrugs, "Tennis player? Professional, I suppose? It's nice to meet you, Bette." She tries to smile politely, but her pointed teeth don't exactly look friendly or polite.

*

Bette Kane smiles back at Scandal. "Oh I've been okay, I managed to get out of that particular party without anyone suggesting I marry their grandson. So I'm going to count it as a win." She shrugs. "I do play professionally, but I'm not involved in as many competitions as I usual to make time for college. Was the steak nice? If there's a decent steak place nearby I'll have to check it out next time I'm in the area."

*

A look over at Bette and then she hmms at how the girl is reacting to Lily, taking it in and then saying, "Good, glad to hear it. You sure you don't want to marry some rich boy and settle down?" She chuckles and then looks back at Lily before saying, "So, Lily, we've only just officially met but I am curious as to what you are up to in NYC. New here or is this what you call home?"

*

"Oh, yeah. The steak was delicious. Lots of butter and they only seared the outside so it was basically still blue on the inside. Perfect." Her smile tightens slightly at Scandal's questions, a grinning con-air smile. Slowly she slips her legs out from the under the table as she stands up, so as to not be the only one sitting. "College, huh? Studying for a particular career?" Her black eyes focus on Scandal, "I think I like Savage more than Scandal." Her tone dips a bit more sharp, "I'm likely going to stay here for a while. You know. Look for a little work on the side. Maybe I'll stick around permanently."

*

"Oh god no, I'm not looking for Mister Right at a /Gotham/ social event! I swear almost everyone in that city is a little too strange for me. It's like that place HP Lovecraft wrote about, what was it, Innsmouth." Bette nibbles at her icecream and winks. "I'll check the steak place out then. What do I do at college? Oh I'm in my flitting between courses phase. Dabbling in forensics right now but I might change to literature. Anything but sport science really, I've had enough of that to last a lifetime." She sighs. "Anyway it was lovely to speak with you both, but I better dash. I've got a library study session to get to and after that a full evening in the gym. No rest for the wicked right?"

*

A nod to Bette and she waves a hand before looking back over at Lily and smirking, "Feel free." She states, "Though on the name front…be careful using my last name rather than my first. My father isn't someone you want to meet casually." She shrugs and then tilts her head, "As for work…there's work about if you know where to look. I might even turn some people in your direction if you like."

*

Lily waves Bette a goodbye as she departs, and Lily tosses her own plate away at a nearby garbage can. "You know what? That'd be swell. And maybe we could have a talk about how you found me out. Always helpful to know how my advertising campaign is working out or if the yelp reviews are really just that good." She turns and brushes off her pants, "Let's go for a walk.."
