Relatively speaking, still very much a newcomer to Earth, Kara has learned of a wonderful opportunity to learn more about her new home planet. A place called a zoo! Namely the Bronx Zoo, somewhere where she can find lots of different animal life forms inhabiting the planet Earth! Just like a museum, just more lively and fascinating. That's how she's made it here today, walking between the cages, looking a bit sad for so many imprisoned animals, which she's sure has done no harm to deserve such a punishment.

*

Zoos are certainly a rather primitive, maybe cruel way to keep animals. But Earth is still a few decades from true virtual reality and centuries from cheap teleportation. For most New Yorkers this is the only way to see exotic animals alive. Some species would be extinct if not for zoos like this one.

Nathaniel considers zoos somewhat barbaric, but that is the 21st Century for you. Hardly the worst thing in Earth. He saw a few when he got to this timeline a few years ago. Now he sees it from the high when flying over the Bronx.

Along with the aliens… wait, aliens? Yes, Kara just pinged in the armor sensors. Which is not all that uncommon, he knows there are a few aliens in the New York area. But he has a few minutes time, so he flies down to investigate. Trying to land in his silver and red armor out of sight for witnesses. But unlikely not be undetected by Kara's enhanced senses.

*

Kara does look up when she notes something strange descending from the sky, nothing human seeming at least. Could it be another alien? She's already heard there were others, not that she'd had the chance to meet them. For now she makes sure to stay more alert, while studying an elephant, a most tremendous creature. "Wow…" she gasps while witnessing it for the first time, standing still while studying the animal.

*

Flying power armor does not seem common on New York, no. Then again neither are elephants. And Nathaniel landed some distance from Kara. The armor fades into a dark suit and heavy coat, since today the weather is pretty bad. So Nathaniel looks pretty normal when he walks towards Kara. "Good afternoon," he greets, offering the young woman a warded smile. "First time in a zoo?"

*

Kara turns as someone speaks to her, looking curiously at Nathaniel, before nodding her head, "how did you know…?" Didn't quite occur to her that staring the way she was might be a giveaway that she's never seen an elephant at all, at the very least.

*

"Ah, pretty obvious," replies Nathaniel, smiling faintly again and standing a couple yards from the young blonde. "But the truth is I cheated; you appeared in my scanners a few minutes ago. < How long have you been on Earth? >" He asks, switching from English to Interlac smoothly.

*

"Is it that obvious?" Kara asks with a sheepish smile, before furrowing her brow at the mention of scanners, "are you a scientist?" She asks Nathaniel, before wearing a rather blank expression when he shifts to an alient tongue, and she just nods awkwardly.

*

Nathaniel nods, looking amused. "You should have seen your expression. And… yes, I suppose I am a scientist. More an engineer, actually. You don't speak Interlac, hmm? Your English is perfect, though."

He steps closer, deciding Kara is probably harmless and offering her his hand. "I am Nathaniel Richards. I was asking how long have you been on Earth."

*

"Of course it is…" Kara apparently still doesn't give in the unspoken fact that she might be an alien. "Why would you ask that? So what if it's my first time at a zoo," Kara gets a bit defensive, as she shakes hands with Nathaniel, "Kara Danvers," she introduces herself as she was taught by her cousin.

*

"Just curious, I am not going to report you to anyone, do not worry," promises Nathaniel after a brief handshake. "I am technically from Metropolis, but in truth I am also a visitor from far away. And I addressed you in Interlac because most spacefarers can speak the language." And if she can't, that is also revealing.

*

"I'm not a spacefarer," Kara notes, somewhat dejectedly, though she does ease up a bit as he mentions not reporting her to anyone. "I'm from Kansas, but also a visitor from far away," she accepts to share that much with him, just as he did with her. "Were you the one wearing a special exo-skeleton suit?"

*

"Yes. I am still wearing it. It is a neuro-kinetic suit," explains the young man. He raises a hand and lets Kara see how his sleeve chances from cloth to metal scales and back to cloth. "It responds to my thoughts. Kansas, hmm? I suppose it suits you. Kara Danvers. I know a Carol Danvers, any relation?"

*

"She's amazing!" Kara notes, "she's my best friend," she better be after buying Kara a whole wardrobe. "We might be related, I never really checked, you never know!" She giggles at the very thought, the way her eyes sparkle at the mention of Carol, her assertion of loving the woman must be genuine.

*

Related? Not likely. Unless Kara has Kree blood, in which case they might be -kind- of related. "She is amazing, yes," agrees Nathaniel. "A great warrior and a great hero." And the field leader of the Avengers, technically. "So I suppose you have a good guide for New York," and he makes a mental note to ask Carol about this young woman, too.

*

"I didn't ask too many questions about New York, just a little really, I'm more interested in everything…" because that really simplifies things, as the elephant suddenly makes a sound, Kara jumps and looks behind her, blinking a few times, "wow, that thing can be loud!"

*

"You are a true explorer," comments Nathaniel, smiling again. Interested in everything! "Elephants are among the largest land creatures currently alive on Earth. But they are tropical animals, I doubt this one is happy given how cold is this day. Sadly, the zoo doesn't have good installations for them, it is too expensive."

*

"I wish I could help him," Kara murmurs under her breath, nodding at Nathaniel's explanation. "It's a very interesting life form." Kara moves closer to the cage, "what do they eat? Not people I hope!"

*

"No, they are herbivores," comments Nathaniel, turning to watch the Elephant. "And it is a shame, but it is also the only way for the people of this country to see one of these animals. So I suppose you can say they are being sacrificed in the name of education. If it serves you as consolation they usually live shorter lives in the wild than in the zoos."

*

Kara turns to look at Nathaniel, nodding at his words, "I don't know how to feel about that," she then turns to the elephant again, "I'll see you later Mr. Elephant, I hope you have a nice day…" she then starts walking towards the next set of cages, that is after all what she is here for, should Nathaniel tag along she'll ask, "what do you use your neuro-kinetic thing for?"

*

Tag along? Nathaniel wouldn't want to impose his presence, but since Kara asks him a question he will assume it is alright for her. "Ah, the suit is almost infinitely versatile. I use it to protect this world, but also to help me design technology. It is also how I came here in the first place."

*

"So you're one of the heroes of this world? I've met some, there are wonderful selfless people on this planet," Kara offers with a smile.

*

Nathaniel smiles, grins actually; this is maybe the one time Kara gas seen the smile reaching his eyes. "I am trying. I feel I still have much to learn, but I have met some very inspiring people. I am one of the Avengers now. Our group is led by Carol Danvers and we have our headquarters in this city, close to Central Park."

*

"Well, if Carol Danvers is there, I'm sure the Avengers are the best," Kara offers with a warm smile, looking pleased to see Nathaniel reveal a smile for once. She hasn't met in his company long, but still, a smile makes everything better.
