A Business Proposal

February 25, 2018:

Morien offers Alice a job, when he buys the company she is working for.

Umoja Tower- Board room

The main office of Umoja International in New York City, is a forty story
skyscraper with an outside square that is filled with Neo-Impressionist
sculptures. The outside square leads to the lobby area of the building. The
lobby gives off the immediate expressions of security and professionalism as
the security guards allow each person to past beyond the metal detectors,
verifying their badges, and wishes them a good at work. New visitors
received the same level of courtesy, even though they face more security
checks to be allowed into the building.

Majority of the floors are filled with floors of cubicles with workers
working on a variety issues and missions for the company. There is a floor
filled with information and electronic technicians and engineers that has a
more laid back atmosphere than the rest of the floors. There is an alarm
control center floor and a floor that holds several unsecured and secured
servers.

The fourth floor to the top is the main conference floor. The top three
floors are the living quarter, and personal business office for Morien
Washington. This area is only accessible by Morien.

Fade In…

Three Umoja securrity officers are checking bags and people as they entered the building. It seems after three years at this location, they are finally operating at the military precision that Umoja security is known for around the world. Umoja employees move towards the left and have their bags, and security cards check. New visitors have to go through a longer process which involves them handing over two forms of identification and standing in front of camera to have their picture taking.

Once the picture is taking, the visitor is issued a badge that allows them access to only floors pertaining to their visit. This is the tedious, but surprising quick process Alice has to go through.

Once finished, Arielle Reynolds, CFO of Umoja International is standing at the elevator for her. She extends her hand to Alice. "Ms. Walker, Thank you for accepting our invitation. I hope you allow me to escort you to the meeting room."

Alice takes it all with the patience the undying of the world have learned. A simple smile for the guards is given as she passes over IDs. "So glad the weather's gotten better," She says, making polite and friendly talk as he scans things. A little brightness to a day likely filled with mostly irritated and impatient people. As they pass it back and take her picture, she is the epitome of pleasant and kind.

"Thank you," She says as she accepts the badge and clips it to her lapel. Taking her purse back. Mostly what was in it is her waterbottle, a plastic emergency waterbottle, along with perfume, nose spray, throat spray, all of which tests perfectly as it should. She also has her business binder, which notpad, notes, pens, and business cards inside.

"Thank you…ah Miss or Mrs. Reynolds?" Alice says with her usualy warm smile, taking the hand and shaking in a friendly manner. Companies changing hands to her is nothing new. These things happen and so she adjusts. "I'm always open to new things," She says with a chuckle, following her into the elevators. "Do you like working here?" She asks as it heads to the meeting room.
"Ms. Reynolds, people here find that I do not miss much." Arielle replies politely, "Well, I am still going over the numbers over this acquisition. Our biomedical and medical equipment sanctions grew greatly last year, and I am hoping that if we do go forward with buying your company this is not a case of pigs get fat, but hogs get slaughtered."

Arielle Reynolds lets the elevator doors open an walks towards the meeting room, "I have been with this company for about 7 years, and I have never wanted to leave. Well, perhaps when someone sent assassins after us, but that was the only time. Mr. Washington may be young, but he looks after his people. He jumped right in after his brother had died, and we have grown immensely with him as a helm.

The meeting room has a some pastries, fresh fruit, and gourmet sandwiches. There are some teapot that filling the meeting room with an intoxicating aroma.
Alice follows after Arielle with real interest, nodding and listening as she is led to the meeting. "I like to think youth or the appearance of youth, is never really the truth. I look to be in my twenties, but you knowing my file know I'm in my forties," She says, using it as an example. "Youth never precludes intelligence or ablity. All it is really good for is distracting other people into thinking your young, and thus, stupid."

Her eyes take in the conference room and then light on the tea. "Oh excellent!" She says, her English accent crisp and pleased at the sight of tea. "What is Mr. Washington's favorite tea, if you don't mind my asking?" The tea afficianado sniffs delicately as she passes the pot to take a seat.
"It is an Ethiopian spice tea. It is my own recipe." Morien states as he enters the room and walks to the end of table. Morien settles down in his chair and motions for Alice to settle down. "Please help yourself for something to eat, and some of the tea. It is really it is delicious." Morien peers over at Arielle Reynolds. "How is that special project coming along?"

Arielle Reynold rolls her eyes, "Slow, very slow. It is why I am not going to stay for a few minutes here. Arielle takes a set.

Morien smirks, "So you are telling that after this meeting, I am going to have to spend a lot of hours talking to you about this projet.

Arielle winks at Morien, "You know me so well." Arielle turns to Alice, "If we do buy your company, Mr. Washington takes the time to learn how to speak his employee's coded language. He is one of the few bosses that can be trained."

Now it is Morien's time to roll his eyes, "All right, First, do you have any questions, Ms. Walker?"
Alice looks up as Morien enters, giving him a warm and friendly smile. "It's a pleasure to meet you," She says as she more than happily pours herself a cup and then one for Morien as well. It's just that English nature. "Thank you, it smells wonderful. I have an entire cupboard and shelf in my kitchen dedicated to teas from all over the world," She admits, bringing the cup to her nose and inhaling with great thought. The barest sip and her eyes roll up and to the side. "Ooohhh. I would not have thought to combine those two, excellent idea!" She says with a nod, setting the cup down.

Business is why she was here first, not to discuss the intricacies of tea. She folds her hand on the table, waiting to take any of the tempting foods just yet. "Well, I for one am not in the finance department. But from what I understand of the proposal, you think the merge will double profits, but also allow expansion of the research department, yes?" She says, pulling her business binder out of her purse. It is opened and she pulls out her copy of the proposal and a pair of reader glasses. She doesn't really need them, they're just glass, but appearances are important. Pretending weakness is important too.
"Well, yes and no." Morien says. "There are a variety of companies that interest me, and most are in better locations than Gotham. I heard that there is a location in the middle of Siberia that has just opened up." Morien clasps his hands together, "I have looked into your record, and you are remarkable bright, and since absorbing NuGenesis Biotechnica into Umoja International I have yet to find someone to properly merge our previous medical equipment division with our new biomedical assets.

Arielle Reynolds interjects, "We believe 45 percent of our new profits will come from merginh the two divisions into one. The rest of 55 percent of the profits will come from new patents that the division creates. Again, I am still running the numbers through a variety of simulations which brings us to you, Ms. Walker.

Morien taps his left foot a few times, "We are only interesting in your company if you agree to be our new division of head of this biomedical board. I believe that you find some of the technology gathered from NuGenesis will interests you. Morien lends on and pours himself a cup of tea. "We are willing to keep are willing to negotiate on any people you wished to keep in the company, and we are prepared to offered you excellent benefits package, and you will have a seat on our board too. The seat on our board is more of advisory position."

Alice leans back in the chair, legs crossed, and picks up her mug again. She sips it, eyes glancing from Morien to Arielle as they each speak in turn. Then she blinks at Morien's proposal. As he lays it out she sits back up, setting the cup down, and looks surprised. And maybe a little bit pleased too. "Well, I wasn't expecting that!" She admits with a chuckle.

The proposal is glanced at and then set back in her brief binder. She steeples her fingers before her lips, obviously in thought, her eyes very alert as they regard the head of the company. "That is an incredible offer, Mr. Washington," She says as she lowers her hands back into her lap. "Do you have the written offer?" She asks. "My biggest hesitation is that of my current research projects. I would worry board time might eat up a lot of that. I tend to be a hands-on kind of boss," That was the draw of biology and chemistry after all. "I already serve on BigPharma's board in an advisory position, but they are smaller and my time or expertise isn't always called on. So I still have plenty of time to do the most important work." The research, that part left unsaid.

"Well, you will have assistants fro our existing personnel. I do expert someone to do it all." Morien sits down with his tea and takes a sip. "As you stated, you will have your own person to help with the finances, human resources within your department, asset protect, atc." Morien places the tea down on the table. "I sure you that our assets and other resources will allow you to speed up your own research. We want you to feel free to create, and the only thing is that we insists that any project that you have not finished by the end of midnight of final acquisition date of BigPharma, and future projects will both be own by yourself and our company. The patent will be 50/50, and for some reason you reach to sell your part of the patent. We will have the first opportunity to buy.

Morien peers slowly at his tea. "And I have heard about your daughter, we have hired some unique individuals in the past to help our business, and we do have one of the best private security companies on the planet. We would do our best to assist you in recovery your daughter. That is on the table too. I hope that did not come off as callous."

Morien grinds his teeth a bit. "I will pass on your information to one of our hires if you do not want to sign up, but I am afraid for legal reason I could not use the company's resources to help you. The board frowns on those things.

Arielle Reynolds turns to Alice. "We have run into problems in the past."

Alice nods slowly and makes some notes in her brief. "That seems reasonable," Alice says regarding patents and research. "Above standard, now that I think of it," She says, head coming up from her writing with a little smile.

Reaching for her own cup she is sipping when he mentions Kendra. While she doesn't quite cough into her cup, she does set it down quickly and clear her throat. The smile fading to a deep weariness in her eyes. "Ahhh," She says a touch uncomfortable as she frowns down into her tea. "Right," She says with a sigh. "No. Not callous at all. Just…the police have informed me that at this stage, with no ransom demands, she is likely…ahhh…lost for good," What mother would want to say 'dead' about their own child. She takes a sip from the tea, letting it clear her thoughts.

The chemist pauses as she considers her tea and the words put out. "I have a couple different PIs already looking into it. But big business has to be careful. I've seen my share of corporate espionage," She says reaching out to take a sandwich and nibble at the edge. "I am definitely interested, though. I would like to see a written proposal with benefits and what you laid out, but that is mostly formality. What you are proposing sounds exactly like the sort of thing I've been working towards for a few years now." Rebuilding an identity takes time after all.

"Of course." Morien motions to Arielle. Arielle places a button and tablet vertically lifts out of the table next to Alice.

Morien begins to recite things in the forms, "Here is the contract. It pertains to your role in our company, how many non-voting stocks you received, scholarships, healthcare, and all of our executives and their children are provided security as well as anyone who requests security for a personal reason. We have had to take of abused spouses, people that were getting stalked, etc. There is a non-disclosure clause," Morien taps his left food under table, "Hhmm, we provide per diem for a year if you wish to relocate to New York, and need to find a house, and we will also provide education stipend for your children. I think we will be able to get our Gotham office up and running quickly, but it is Gotham. You never know what craziness is going to delay construction there.

Morien clasps his hands, "My people have been able to return children soldiers to surviving relatives, and we have been able to return kidnapped girls to their parents. Someone reminded me recently about the importance of hope."

Morien clasps his hands, "My people have been able to return children soldiers to surviving relatives, and we have been able to return kidnapped girls to their parents. Someone reminded me recently about the importance of hope."

Sensation turns to the tablet with a raised brow and begins to scroll through everything. Her eyes flick over the words and she has an incredibly reading rate it seems. "Mmmmm… mmmhmmm," She says, nodding to Morien and occasionally glancing at him. She takes another bite of her sandwich as she scrolls through the contract.
"I actually own a flat up here. BigPharma has laboratories and equipment up here that we don't in Gotham. Makes things a little awkward. And Autumn is home schooled. Partly by necessity, she has severe social anxiety," Alice says with a smile and nod. "But I do not mind commuting either." Her brows raise when she gets to salary and she glances from the tablet to Morien in surprise. "This is nearly double what I'm making now," She says in surprise. It takes a lot to surprise her, but that does it.
Morien coughs nervously, "See, we start out executives out pretty high, but your future raises are dependent upon a metric system in which the people working for have input how they see your job performance, combine with your superiors, and your fellow board members. We take in consideration if your people are meeting their marks, and if they have earn raises too.
Morien offers up another polite smile, "If your people are not happy, meeting their marks, earning their raises and bonuses, then you will not get a raise either."
"I like it. Innovative and encourages cooperation instead of competition," Alice says as she goes back to scrolling through the tablet. Lips pursed she nods, pausing to read with care one part here or there. "Now I do some freelance consulting from time to time. Mainly the League hospital when they have…unusual patients," She is one of the few people with any knowledge and skill in xenobiology and xenochemistry on Earth who is also human. "Is that going to cause issues as long as I set things up for smooth running if I need to do so? I'm one of the few people who can handle some of these cases and I'm not one to ignore my oath." Unlike may doctors she's met in the past.
"Not a problem as long as they understand when you work there you are not representing Umoja International in anyway, then we are fine with it." Morien smiles politely, "We do however wished to remain neutral politically when it comes to dealing with mutants, superpowered individuals, etc. We do charities for mutant causes, be we also have government contracts too."
Morien nods. "We expect our employees to not to insult any of our clients or our causes in the media, including the internet. It is just bad for business."
Arielle Reynolds speaks up as she stands. "It is in our morale clause. We do not ask for much. We do not wish for large groups of people boycotting us either. Arielle Reynold extends her hand, "It was a pleasure meeting you. I hope you come aboard.
Arielle Reynolds turns to Morien, "You still need to go over these numbers with me before you retire for the evening."

"Of course!" Alice says and nods with all seriousness. "I have the same agreement with BigPharma. I don't advertise it or make a big deal out of it, so it shouldn't be hard to keep under the radar," Plus it is the mostly work for the publically aclaimed superheroes out there.
"A pleasure," She says, taking Arielle's hand and shaking it warmly once again. "I think we will be seeing a lot more of each other." Her decision is pretty much made as she continues to review the contract. "Is there any chance I can see your labs? I can sign the NDA now easily," She says, a little bit of excitement creeping in to her voice.

"Well, I am afraid that will have to wait to everything is finished." Morien bops his head from side to side, "There are some board rules that even I have to obey.' Morien chuckles softly, "Eventhough I am eager to really show off what we did with NuGenesis Biotechnica technology." Morien sits back down in his seat. "I think it will really surprise even you."

Sensation chuckles and nods her head, "I figured as much as that. But it never hurts to ask," She says with a soft laugh. "Well, I am going to take the evening to read over this. But from my scanning it all looks like more than I had hoped for. I will call you in the morning with my answer." She taps a button on the tablet. "Mmmmm, is this already forwarded to my email?" She asks hopefully.

Morien nods, "Of course, let me have the pleasure escorting you to the door..

Alice chuckles and nods, standing and moving to follow Morien through the building. "I have been doing some research. Your company is growing by leaps and bounds. I really am excited to work with you. I have access to some great equipment and materials, but…" And she grins leaving the obvious unsaid. Morien's company has more.
