Somewhere in the World

My name is Barry Allen and I'm the fastest man alive.

It's been sort of a hectic day. Imagine this: 2 stops in Central City where I'm still heading every day after moving to New York; I had a small stint in Seattle taking care of an issue with a dam, and then from there it was all over the world. Russia, India, Bolivia and now … Crap. Where am I?

Sometimes it's really bad when you forget your GPS.

"Uh," The Flash says into his com piece trying to find a signal. "This is the Flash checking in with anyone on this frequency. Anyone on this frequency at all. I'm kind of lost."

***

In the Gotham Clocktower, Oracle's face is lit by the light from her screens as she watches the Gotham goings on. Video feeds flicker in some windows, data streams in others but there's nothing particular to capture Oracles attention at the moment, so sitting back in her chair she allows herself a moment of relaxation time. It's about then, that The Flashs' communication registers… she knows that frequency isn't allocated to any of her regular assets, the redhead frowns and tilts her head as she turns the audio on… interesting, she's been hearing about the Flash, time to meet.

"Flash, this is Oracle. Maybe I can help you find your way." the voice that is transmitted is digitally altered, The Flash won't know whether he's talking to a male or female… it's the way Oracle needs it to be.

***

The Flash nods, to himself, and looks up at the sky. High noon. That's not much help. "Oracle? I've heard of the Oracle before. This is them, right? You're one of the good guys, right?" He bites his lip. It's probably okay to trust them. The worst that could happen would be for the androgynous voice to lead him to a trap, but in 3 years he's yet to be touched.

***

As she started talking to The Flash, Oracle has started the processes to identify just where he might be. Admittedly, radio contact like he's using generally means Gotham, but stranger things have been known to happen. Like being transported to a spaceship. "I like to think I'm one of the good guys… and it's good you've heard of me." the woman herself is smiling, her eyes wrinkling at the corners at the conversation. Oracles voice however is disturbingly monotonic. "Now, where is it you wish to be going…."

***

"Well, I'd kind of like to be headed towards Gotham." The scene around Flash, however, is incredibly foreign. There are rolling hills of green, but also with palm trees. Off in the distance are a few farm houses, but it's really feeling like the middle of nowhere. Needless to say, the man is completely turned around.

***

The scan results Oracle's run prove that stranger things happen (regularly it semms) and The Flash is not in Gotham… that means that there are unusual atmospheric conditions that are allowing this signal to bounce. "Well, I'm in Gotham, so you got that much right" again the woman laughs, the voice transmitted doesn't though. "But you're not. Let me see what I can do here… do you have a cell phone and is it turned on?" Sure, there are other ways of tracking a body, but hacking into, uh sorry, borrowing time on, a satellite takes some time… so whilst that process starts, why not try the cheap and easy things first?

Sitting forward in her chair, her face a mask of concentration, Oracles fingers fly over her consoles as she enters the series of commands to access the satellites she, ahem, borrows time on. She needs more precise information of course, but the process is started.

***

"Well," the Flash admits as he sort of stands there in the countryside next to a sheep, "I sure am glad STAR Labs put this radio together for me. If not, I'd have had to stop by a pay phone, and I'm not sure they make those anymore. So I really appreciate your help."

***

It takes some time for the traces to run, and Oracle blinks at the results. The Flash is in the middle east. Stranger Things Happen (TM) "Well, you're a long way home…. " Oracle relays the coordinates of where he is "Now, do you want the whole route to get home? or do you want to do this in stages?" Whilst she's talking, Oracle brings up the map and plots the most efficient course to Gotham. The comment about payphones gets a slight chuckle but no comment.

***

"Well, I think I'm late for my rendezvous in Gotham, so we'd better make it New York instead." The Flash stops to think, "Stages is probably good."

***

Back in the Clocktower, Oracle smiles at that. "New York it is then." is sent over the comms, and the map reroutes almost instantly. "Here is your first stage. Check in when you're there and I'll give you the next stage." and the directions are provided to The Flash.

***

"Thanks a billion," Barry replies, because a million is just not enough. About 30 seconds later, the Flash stops in Spain and looks around. "Well this is pretty nice," he mutters, looking around the city of Toledo. "Nice view. You know, I'm really gonna owe you big time after this."

***

The redhead in the Clocktower smiles more broadly. "Think nothing of it, it's what I do… Nice view you say? Don't suppose you can take pictures and send them to me? I'm living vicariously if you like…" the emotion is stripped from the voice, but Oracle is certain it will be received as intended. "Next stage…." and the coordinates given. Oracle still watches the map, to make sure that The Flash (and she) are on track.

***

The Flash nods, even though no one can see him, "Yeah, I can do that." A good criminalist never leaves home without his camera, so that's easy enough. Preventing it from tracing back to Barry? Well that's going to be a real trick. "Do I just mail it to The Oracle, Gotham City?"

***

The smile doesn't drop "Digitally, here's a secure dropbox address. Use an anonymous proxy and I'll promise not to trace it." because Oracle can do that… anonymous and all. An online dropbox account is provided. "Want to go old school… here's a posting address… again, I won't trace it back." Tracing mail really isn't that hard… not when you can tap into the systems Oracle can. But, trust is a two way street. She has to earn his, like he has to earn hers. "Let me know when you get to the next stage."

***

A few minutes later, Barry ends up in Iceland. The Atlantic is a pretty tricky climb and it's hard to do it in one trip without resting. Worse, if you miss an island you could be in deep trouble. "Alright, when I get back to my supersecret headquarters, I'll send it on over. Again, I really appreciate this." He takes a look at one of Iceland's volcanoes and takes another picture.

***

"Great stuff" Oracle replies "See, you're repaying me already with those photos. Stage 3 …." and the instructions provided. "Supersecret headquarters huh?" Watching the dot on her screen that's The Flash, Oracle checks and double checks the route.

***

A few minutes later, the Flash arrives on Canadian soil after hopscotching across all of those isles down the coast. "Almost there. And yeah, I don't really have a supersecret headquarters. I just thought it would be pretty cool to say and be pretty mysterious."

***

"Nearly home, Flash. You've made good time." Oracle replies and the line goes dead for a fraction."A secret headquarters isn't a bad idea, you should consider it, what you're doing is likely to attract some unwanted attention - both good and bad" says the Woman who has first hand knowledge of how that goes. "Stage 3 coordinates, that should just about see you there." and the next set of coordinates are provided. Oracle, sits back in her chair, watching the progress with a look of satisfaction on her face, waiting for The Flash's next update.
You paged Vorpal with 'got it! Thanks so much.'

By the time Flash gets to Connecticuit, he's pretty sure he knows his way back. He checks in with Oracle back in Central Park. "Wow, that was a close one. If I hadn't contacted you, I'd probably be stuck in Timbuktu right about now. And you're probably right about the HQ, but I have some allies who allow me to use theirs." He's referring to STAR Labs but that's all kind of hush hush.
Vorpal pages: My pleasure :D

***

"My pleasure Flash. I'm here to help at all times, so if you need anything, look me up. That dropbox address you can use anytime, I've reserved it specifically for you." Smiling to herself, Oracle could look a little smug. For not having 'much' to do, this was a nice change. "Take care Flash and try not to get lost too often, hmmmm?"

***

"I'll do my best, Oracle. Thanks again!" Flash says in response. "And if you ever need anything, I'm sure you'll be able to track me down!"
