Fade In…

As part of getting the information out about the Mists and what they can affect and how they change a person's DNA and what genetic markers they need to affect change. Barry Allen admittedly can't give all the answers which is why he's holding these symposiums, in order to get others involved and get the information out there.

Gotham U was his last stop - mainly because it was the most recent outbreak of the Terrigen Mists and where the Joker struck. It was thought it best to keep things calm until Barry could speak on other campuses, but he finally made it to the school.

After completing his speech and taking some questions, the scientist, still less that 30 from the looks of it with his wide rimmed glasses and twill jackey and bowtie is having a couple of drinks with some collegues at a local bar, but it seems the night is starting to wind down as they are leaving, having Barry sitting at the bar alone as he orders a club soda to draw from as he looks over his new contacts. There's hope yet.

*

Having gone to the syposium, Dr. Isley followed the young scientist out, though remains back when he meets up with friends before heading to the bar. She's bid her time while his friends left one by one, finally leaving Barry alone at the bar. Rising from the chair she'd been seated at and turning down a few drinks sent her way, she slowly makes her way to the bar, soon to press up between his chair and the empty to his side, "Anyone seated her?" She asks of him, polite and curious, her gaze to linger upon the young man for a moment before she ohs, "I saw your symposium earlier this evening.." A hint of excitement shows in her voice before she offers a slow smile, the woman's aura filled with a latent sensuality from the expression on her face, to the way she moves.

*

"Well.. you are now?" Barry asks as he suddenly finds himself settled next to the beautiful redhead with the alluring scent as he offers a bit of a smile. "…you heard me speak?" he says with a sudden self-conscious laugh. "I didn't realize you were in the audience, Doctor..?" the young man starts to say as he picks up his glass to sip from it, reaching up to rub the back of his neck with his free hand. "As I said, what I have is just the bare bones of it all, and will need a lot of research before being finally something that can definetly be modified, but it's a start.

*

"Thank you." The redhead answers as she slides onto the stool, half turned to face him as they begin to talk. When the bartender comes by, she asks him for a glass of wine before turning back to Barry, "Dr. Isley.. Pamela Isley." Offering her hand to him to shake, she nods once, "I am certainly curious to find out more, to help in any way with experiments and data collecting."

*

Accepting the hand, Barry offers a warm smile that matches his hand. He's a little nervous after all. "Barry Allen, SHIELD Forensics." he responds with a glance at the bartender. "Refill on the soda, please?" he says before he grins up at Pamela. "I'm an easy drunk." There's a laugh at that, and I want to keep my head to go over the notes. So, Doctor Isley, what field of research do you specialize in?"

*

The shake is returned, her own to linger only briefly before drawing away from his, soon turning to accept the glass of wine from the bartender who drops it off before taking up Barry's cup to refill it with soda. Then off the man goes again to take care of another customer. Pam chuckles at his comment, "Oh, that's a pity, otherwise, I would have asked you to join me." Her own glass is drawn in close, though when asked, she chuckles again, the sound low and husky, "Botany is my main specialty, along with a bit if toxicology and chemistry. Not.. you normal sciences, many have said to me. "

*

"Actually, I have a degree in Chemistry as well - it's kind of what set me upon the Mists." Barry admits with a small chuckle. "Though it doesn't mesh well with the physics." he admits honestly as he sips from his water. "I appreciate the offer, Doctor. We can still drink, just keep it normal?" There's a grin as he considers and crosses his legs over each other. "There is still a lot of work to be done, including identifying the gene that's affected directly by the Mists themselves, and then isolating it, because at the moment, it seems very random."

*

"I don't have a degree, though should likely consider it here lately." Pamela says with a quiet laugh before she nods, not pushing at all, though still, one cannot deny the aura that surrounds the redhead. "It would be most important to identify the gene, though it would be our luck that it /is/ completely random." So illogical! Would make the scientists crazy!

*

"I'm not sure it's the case.. it's the same way that some people end up with powers when they hit a certain age as compared to others. Or how certain plant species when introduced to a vastly different environment, tend to either adapt or die. Perhaps this is just another adaptation of the human race?" Barry suggests, feeling that aura that brings a blush lightly to his cheeks as he makes sure to tear himself away from staring away at the woman for too long. "Do you teach at the university, then?" he asks curiously.

*

Whene he makes the point, using plants as an example, Pamela smiles further, "The strongest survives.." This she can understand, "Perhaps it is that, but do you think that finding the gene, might also be able to tell you how exactly those that are affected, might bloom in their powers?" Because, wouldn't that be handy to have an idea of what powers the person may end up having?

*

Pamela takes a sip from her glass, and as she lowers it to the counter, her tongue darts out to lightly lick at her lips before adding, "Sometimes. I mostly do research these days. I've taught a seminar here and there?"

*

There's a warm flush and chuckle from the SHIELD scientist. "I know how that is, Doctor." Barry keeps it professional, somehow, as he smiles to the redhead. "I've only substituted for a few profiling courses." With that, he takes a longer draw from his soda and settles back in his chair. "But right, as you said - if we can determine what the catalyst is, we can try to help those that are affected the worst and help them learn to control their new abilities - but erasing them? That's something that is a dangerous slope to consider, perhaps almost as bad as trying to control mutations."

*

"Ah, yes.. forensics. I must say, your job must be fairly interesting at times." Pamela says before shaking her head, "No, not erase them." By no means does she even hint at that thought. "I meant more, figuring out what they might be able to do so you have a better idea of what to expect when they come out and into their powers for the first time. Can be prepared, perhaps? " Like, know a guy might be acidic to touch??

Finally, someone seems to get it! Barry's smile blossoms for the redhead. "Exactly. If we can have a predictor of what's going to happen, they can know, prepare, understand the risks sooner than having to adapt after a sudden three to five day coma and coming out completely changed." Grasping her hands for a moment, he grins widely. "Thank you! You're the first one that truly seems to understand what the point of this is." Then realizing he's holding her hands, he releases them quickly to retreat to his side of the bar.

*

His excitement is cute. Even more when he grabs her hand while talking. Nodding, Pamela smiles, "I figured that was something you were after, hearing you describe your search to pinpoint the gene behind it all. I have seen how some of these come out, and it's not always the best. Especially if those around it are not prepared for what abilities they soon find themselves faced with." Her hands offer his a squeeze in turn, the smile warming upon her lips as he pulls back, blushing.

*

"Right. And once those abilities come out, in unprepared, could be disastorous. There's one currently at SHIELD that is seeking help because she was combined with toxins from the man known as the Joker while in her metamorphosis." Barry explains. "There's currently no way to seperate the toxins from her powers, without disastorous effects, so it comes down to helping her try to understand and use her powers, since part of them at the moment are preventing her from sleeping."

*

At mention of Joker's name, there might be a brief show of some emotion on her face before it slides away again, half hidden by the glass she'd lifted for a sip, "Joker, hmm? The poor girl.." A pause, and she asks, "It didn't make her poisonous to others, did it?" Well, he mentioned toxins. "Do you know what sort of toxins were used on her?" Curious is the red head.

*

To most people, that brief show of emotion may have been too brief to notice. For Barry? He sees the change as it blossoms and then fades before he shakes his head. "Not that I know of, but there are others working on it - as far as the toxins? Not currently - I suppose it's impossible to tell, from what I was told?" He's not had a chance to delve in on that, with all of his other projects. "I do hope she finds help, though." He finishes off his soda water, and glances at his watch with a chuckle. "Goodness, it seems that time does fly in good company."

*

Pamela hmms, "Pehaps.. well.. perhaps I could lend a hand in researching the toxins? Knowing exactly what was used, would be helpful inthe long run?" The offer is made, though as he looks to his watch, she hmms, "True." She pulls a business card out of her slim purse, handing it to him. It's simple, her information and nothing more but a PO and phone number.

*

Accepting the card, Barry pulls out his own card, because that's how exactly these things work, right? Barry offers a smile to the gorgeous redhead as he rises to his feet and gives her a smile. "It was a pleasure to meet you, Doctor Isley." With that, he leaves the money on the counter to pay for the drinks and a tip before he moves to depart the bar and the young woman's alluring aura.

*

"Likewise." Pamela offers as she takes the card from him and tucks it away. "I was serious, if there might be a way I could help with figuring out the toxin… give me a call?" That said, she smiles, "Have a good night, Barry." And how she purrs his name as he leaves.
