Babs Peppers The Pot

October 16, 2014:

Fenris organises for Babs to meet Pepper Pots on neutral grounds to discuss how they can work together to help Jim Reha

Central Park - New York City

Sitting on 843 acres of public land, Central Park is one of the most famous sight-seeing spots in New York, and is considered large enough to have its own police precinct (the Central Park Precinct) dedicated to its protection. The Park boasts several lakes — all of which have been created artificially — extensive walking and bridle paths, two ice skating rinks, a variety of outdoor theatre spaces, several playgrounds, and a considerable collection of whimsical statuary. It is home to Belvedere Castle, the Carousel, the Central Park Zoo, the Conservatory, and Cleopatra's Needle (one of three, 70-foot Egyptian obelisks from the Temple of Ra in Helios, its mates residing in London and Paris).

Fade In…

Fenris does have some faculty for technology. He can send text messages. To wit, one to Pepper asking her to come down and meet 'Babs' in Central Park. He wanted to pick a more or less neutral location. Central Park is just about as Neutral as it gets. It's nice and open and has a fairly relaxing atmosphere in the after work hours. And it's not too terribly far from Pepper's place of work. It's pretty far from Gotham but Fenris, or should we say 'Jeremiah Wolfson' is perfectly willing to play taxi a bit.

***

Wheeling her chair alongside Jeremiah, down the paths of Central Park, Babs looks like any other disabled woman. It is a simple wheelchair, no bells and whistles, just plain and straightforward. Babs herself has dressed in smart casual: slacks, button up blouse and a blazer/jacket in deference to the weather. "It really was quite kind of you to offer the lift, Mr Wolfson, I could have found my own way here."

***

Pepper Potts arrives precisely when Fenris requested, because she's punctual that way. She didn't allow Lucky to do the driving, though, as that would mean he'd have to try to find a parking space for his car. This way, the Stark fleet car drops them off and simply moves on its way while Pepper and Lucky walk toward the arranged location. "Do you have a passport, Jason? I might have to make a trip to Beijing soon, and I know you and Tony would both would feel better if you went along."

***

Jason nods his head "Yes, new one just came in" he's not exactly happy about not being able to take his Tucker, but it's for the best, it's always so hard to find a good parking space. As usual he's just wearing a simple white shirt with suit pants and carrying a briefcase. He's never sure about public meetings but if it gets pepper away from the phone it'll be good for her.

***

Fenris stops near a particular park bench that sits in a plaza with a fountain. "It was my pleasure, Babs." 'Wolfson' rumbles. "It was after all my offer to make an introduction. Only right that I should offer some form of transportation." Besides this way Babs doesn't have to sit in traffic.

"Ah there she is now. And her bodyguard. He's a bit suspicious. Don't take it personally."

Hopefully Fenris' presence will go a long way toward relieving some of that suspicion.

***

Babs nods as Fenris explains and turning her chair, she's quite adept at maneouevring it, she faces the two people approaching them. Placing her hands neatly in her lap, Babs looks calm and serene. The picture of a business person about to take any other ordinary meeting.

***

Pepper Potts nods to Jason, inwardly glad that the normally morose man took the initiative to get that done. Not that she couldn't have had Cricket arrange it, but still. When she sees Fenris and the younger redhead there with him, she smiles an initial hello. "Good evening." She offers her hand to Babs to shake, seemingly completely unperturbed by Barbara's being in a wheelchair. "I'm Pepper Potts, this is my associate, Jason Lucky."

***

Jason silently nods his head, keeping looking over the woman in the wheelchair for a moment, before looking to Fenris silently asking about thirty questions without really stating them. He's badly scarred head to toe, with burns, cuts, scars, and in general just looks like he's been through hell, but he tries to offer a slight smile to Oracle his face normally in a permanent sort of scowl of a resting face.

***

"Hello Miss Potts. Lucky." 'Jeremiah' nods. "This is Barbara Gordon. She's a technical expert whom I believe may be able to be of some assistance to Mister Reha… with the proper equipment. She's also a fairly good person, and a good person to know. I thought perhaps you should meet." So saying the god-wolf steps out the way. Babs is more than capable of handling herself, he's seen.

***

Babs accepts Peppers hand and shakes it firmly "Miss Potts, a pleasure to meet you." She offers a pleasant but professional smile and turns to face Jason. Holding out her hand to him, the smile still in place "Mr Lucky, you too." and addressing the two of them "But please, call me Babs."

Not one to dither, Babs continues "Mr Wolfson is most kind in his assessment and I would like to see if I can assist Mr Reha. In fact, I believe I can in the right situation. When the issue was initially raised with me, I indicated that I was prepared to use facilities that I have access to, but Mr Wolfson and Mr Reha suggested that you might be able to assist further, Miss Potts."

***

Pepper glances at Fenris when he introduces Babs, her eyebrows rising in a mild show of surprise when he mentions Jim Reha, and she looks at the younger woman again. "A pleasure, Babs. Jim has already emailed me with a request, actually, and it's one that I'm happy to be able to accomodate. I've already requested that one of the spare labs in the Tower be prepared for your use, so it should be ready in just a day or two. Would you care to see the space ahead of time? And perhaps you can suggest what equipment would be most useful to install." Okay, technically, JARVIS is doing all of that, but she's not about to admit as much aloud. The AI is still for the most part a moderately well kept secret.

***

"Pleasure," A firm yet handshake from Jason, who's voice sounds like if you took Tom Waits, fed him a few trucks of gravel, and then pitch shifted him down a bit. His hand's just as scarred as the rest of him, looking like at some point he'd had a knife or something similar stabbed clean through it, his other hand keeping a constant hold on his briefcase whatever is inside most likely something rather valuable.

***

Fenris is perfectly willing to take a back seat in this part of the discussion. He'll provide answers or a quick hop to Stark Tower if desired but it's important that Pepper, Jason and Babs all get to know one another which they can't do with a huge wolf metaphorically hovering. At the moment he smimply remains quiet and smiles a small, knowing smile.

***

The lines around Babs eyes crinkle with her smile. Pushing her glasses up her nose, Babs considers Peppers words and she becomes serious, businesslike, again "That is most kind, Miss Potts and I'm sure you have a high level of security and concerns about allowing a relative stranger into facility. In order to allay your fears, I will send you a complete list of equipment and tools that I will require and I will bring nothing but myself, and perhaps a companion, into your complex." Babs has already considered the trust implications, physical security is a large concern of all major corporations.

Pausing, Babs appears to be thinking before continuing "What I am to examine is incredibly complex. The base equipment I will need, may not be enough and once I've been able to do a full preliminary examination, I may require other equipment. It is also possible, as well, that I will require multiple visits before this work is complete. I'm sure this isn't an issue, but" and there's a small smile "it's best to put all our cards on the table don't you think?"

***

Pepper Potts nods at Babs, also going into businesslike mode as she moves to sit on the park bench next to Fenris so she's more on an eye level with Ms. Gordon. "A list would work perfectly." She pulls a business card from her shoulder bag with the ease of much practice and offers it to the other redhead. "Send any emails to me here, and I'll make sure the lab is set to your specifications. Oh, and don't be surprised if Tony tries to contact you once he catches wind of this. I get the feeling he would be ecstatic to get a chance to talk shop with you."

***

Moving over by Pepper, Jason idly looks about at the surroundings trying to keep an eye on everything while looking more like he's just a bit bored of the whole thing. He looks back to Fenris and Babs, soaking in the conversation with about as much input as a rock. A big musclebound rock in peak physical condition, but a rock.

***

"Has there been any indication of trouble at the Tower, Lucky?" Fenris murmurs. "Jim mentioned he felt sure he was being shadowed and watched by an outside force." The Old Wolf isn't sure how much detail Jim provided but given that the Thanagarian scared Corvinus who is himself a being of no small power, he has to assume the threat it poses is significant and existential.

***

As Pepper takes a seat on the bench, Babs turns her chair to face her and provides an appreciative nod and smile. Any outward sign of panic, at the mention of Tony wishing to 'talk shop', Babs covers with "With me! Whyever for? I'm nowhere near Mr Starks level." Accepting the business card, Babs reads it and holds it in her hand.

***

Considering that Fenris thought to introduce Babs to Pepper, the latter is pretty sure that the younger redhead is SERIOUSLY underselling herself here. One thing's for sure, as soon as this meet and greet is over, she's going to have JARVIS pull all the data he can find about Barbara Gordon. If she's got the chops to help Corvinus, there is very likely more to her than meets the eye. And it won't be a wheel chair that stands up into an Iron Man-like suit, either.

"I think you'd be pleasantly surprised, Ms. Gordon." And honestly, it'd do Tony good to get him to interact with more people. Even though he's back from Malibu, he's still spending way, way too much time in his workshop for her taste.

***

"No," Jason assures rather firmly, before adding on "It's under control,". Yes there have been a few things that are worrying him about security but for the time being it's just small things, small things that they've got in hand. As he just thinks about it there for a moment while the other two talk he adds on a bit more calmly. "We should discuss this later,"

***

Fenris quirks an eyebrow but doesn't pursue the matter. It'll come to a head one way or another. He idly wonders if it's just things like Jim that set this 'Thanagarian' off. There's no shortage of bird like beings in the tri-city area and like Jim some of them are quite powerful. And unlike Jim, some of them don't know enough to be frightened of this thing.

***

Inclining her head to Pepper, Babs replies "As you say, Miss Potts. Do you have anymore questions of me? Otherwise, if I think of more for you, I have your address" and shows the card she is holding in her hand.

***

Pepper Potts takes a moment to consider Barbara's question. "Well, I might have questioned your motivation for wanting to assist Mr. Reha, but seeing as you've come so highly recommended," she glances toward Fenris then looks back to Babs, "I feel fairly certain that you're not doing this for some selfish or nefarious ulterior motive. And besides, if you are," she says almost lightly, though her eyes take on that steely resolve that she usually only employs in front of the Board of Directors, "I just might have to levy some of the resources at my disposal to dissuade you from taking advantage of Mr. Reha and his unique situation."

***

Jason uses this moment to just idly raise the briefcase slightly as if that is supposed to be somehow a backup of Peppers comment. He doesn't really say a word but that look says a lot more about what will happen if she does decide to try and take advantage of trashcanman.

***

"I don't think anyone wants to take advantage of Jim. He seems to have trouble dogging him. It's almost like that old nursery rhyme. 'One for sorrow' and all." The Old Wolf thinks a bit. "Since we one 'Thanagarian' in play, it seems reasonable to presume that there may eventually be others. You may wish to talk to Jim about how to proceed."

***

"If there is nothing else then?" Peppers warning rolling like water off a ducks back. Holding her hand out again to Pepper, Babs says "A pleasure Miss Potts, you'll have my list of requirements this evening."

***

There's that name again. Thanagarian. Pepper remembers hearing Jim mention it before, but JARVIS couldn't find much of anything about it, and that's very much not like the AI. She makes a mental note to ask Fenris who or what a Thanagarian is, and hopefully that'll help her figure out how to best help Jim. But, in the meantime…

"Nothing else at this moment, Ms. Gordon. And thank you for being willing to help Mr. Reha with this situation." She shakes Barbara's hand again before moving to stand. Now that she knows that Thangarian means a person of some sort, she needs to talk with Lucky about beefing up the security around the outside of the Tower. That one girl actually managed to get onto one of the balconies the other week, and that's way too close for Pepper's comfort now.

***

"I think we can call this a successful meeting, then. Babs, shall I take you back then, or would you prefer to look around or arrange your own transportation." Because Fenris doesn't usually just yank people about without asking them. He's a different kind of monster.

***

"A very successful meeting" Bab smiles. "If you could spare a moment of your time, I have questions for you and then you may return me." Looking to Lucky "Mr Lucky, a pleasure" and Babs moves away from the group slightly so they may make their own farewells in private.

***

Pepper Potts smiles and nods to Babs and turns to start back the way she and Lucky came, expecting the scarred man to follow her. As soon as they're what she thinks is safely out of earshot, she pulls her phone from her bag while looking at Jason. "JARVIS," she tells the phone. "I need to you find out everything you can about a Barbara Gordon from Gotham."

"At once, Miss Potts," the AI's voice emits from her phone softly.

***

Jason fallows along like a good bodyguard finally lowering back down the briefcase. When they're out of earshot, Jason responds with a bit of a half-sentence and a slight smile "Great minds". His other hand goes into his pocket face going back stern again, it's usual resting pose.

***

Fenris as requested stays behind. He looks at ease, the god-wolf, even if he is still thowing off dangerous predator vibes. "Mmmmm. Well that went well. He mumurs. "You had questions I believe? I apologise for our last question and answer session being cut short."

***

Babs looks at Fenris levelly, "I am sure Mr Wolfson, you are more than aware what I risk in providing this service. Specifically entering Stark Industries property on my own and… even by offering this assistance in such manner. Should the Thanagarian attack whilst I'm there, and there is a high possibility of this, it will get messy. I was wondering if you had any suggestions for the precaustions I should take." A barbed question, but no less valid.

***

"This is partly why I suggested you do the testing at Stark Tower." Fenris says as he sits down on the bench facing Babs. "Security there will be far higher than most other places you could hope to accomplish this. However, if you like you can either ask Pepper to provide outside security, suggest able persons you might know or… I can be present myself." Fenris has no idea how powerful this 'Thanagarian' is, but he a very potent, very dangerous, very experienced combatant and a passable mage to boot.

***

"I will consider it. Suggesting my own people smacks of double dealing and I'm sure Stark already have their best people on it. Further, I would not presume on your own time, Mr Wolfson." Babs is thoughtful before continuing "I would like to be returned now please. Is that possible?"

***

Fenris opens a Way back to where he picked Babs up. "I do not think anyone would blame you for wanting familiar faces present, though this creature will probably dictate itself whom you wish to ask. As for me, I have time. Much of it I spend policing my hunting grounds of which this is part."

***

"Thankyou Mr Wolfson." Babs begins to enter the portal opened "Should you ever wish to have coffee again…" and she enters the portal and returns home.
