Fade In…

There have been quite a few trying moments for Peggy Carter in the last few weeks. The woman has quite a few reports to file and to process. Her office is small, but it is also tidy and meticulously organized. There may be files, there may be not a lot of room to maneuver, but it is certainly the space of Peggy Carter. Currently seated at her desk and going through a litany of of papers and files, she has been trapped here for a few hours.

Though the process of paperwork is one that Peggy generally despises, she goes about it with a strangely jaunty manner to her demeanor. One might imagine her whistling - if that were a thing that Peggy did at work. It is not, but the strange image is there all the same.

The files that Peggy has been submitting lately have involved quite a lot on redacted files. Some even refer to the Winter Soldier - documents and video files attached as to his treatment at the hands of Hydra and the Soviet Union.

—-

When May deals with paperwork, it's with far less … ebullience. And she's finally to the one about the Winter Soldier, and it looks like Carter is the point of contact for all things Barnes related. Okay, then.

Folders in hand, May arrives at Carter's office and knocks on the door briskly but not loudly.

—-

Peggy is not unused to people knocking on her door. When May knocks, she pauses at the paperwork and stands. It's in her nature. "Come in," she calls to the closed door. When she sees that it is Agent May on the other side of the door, she gives a soft smile. "Agent May." There is respect, but also a bit of warmth in her greeting.

"To what do I owe the visit?"

—-

Melinda May steps into the cramped but somehow still cozy office and closes the door. "I have questions about the Winter Soldier." She doesn't move to sit, even though she knows Carter would be okay with it. "Rogers briefed me on Barned a couple of months ago, and I haven't personally seen any activity since." Though really, that's not that surprising considering that she's usually busy with WAND stuff. And his metal arm doesn't really make him weird or nasty enough to qualify.

—-

In fact, Peggy does gesture at one of the chairs once May is inside. That's only polite. As May remains standing, so does she. The mention of the Winter Soldier and Barnes is met with a nod. "Ah, I see. I have been filing reports as we moved forward, however at times it feels as it's a bit like filing a report out into a void." The SHIELD she remembers was incredibly small and it seemed as if anyone taking any case was known immediately. The global impact of SHIELD is still something that she is coming to terms with, even after all this time.

"As you know, information on the Winter Soldier was few and far between, however Captain Rogers and I were able to ascertain his handlers were Hydra. From files recovered from a raid, we managed to find that Hydra was experimenting with brain washing and Barnes was one of their first subjects."

—-

May nods slowly at that, and can't really find it in herself to be surprised. "Is Barnes still under Hydra's control?" Clearly, she's asking form an operational standpoint. If a team is sent out after the man, they need to know if there's an infrastructure behind him that might make that more problematic.

—-

The question is one that Peggy expected. Knowing May as she does as a coworker and a fellow Agent, she knows that she is thinking about what that means for both SHIELD and the like. "No," she replies firmly. "For a short time, Dr. Jane Foster was held hostage by the same group, however Captain Rogers led a team in for her extraction. Barnes rejected his conditioning, however we were not able to bring him in for question. We had Dr. Foster checked out by medical, but she is now under the custody of Captain Rogers. It seems she was put through some…brutal techniques. There was quite a lot of…evidence we were able to collect that I have been filing that showed both Barnes and Dr. Foster undergoing their…procedures. It is not pleasant viewing materials."

That makes her pause for a moment. "In any event, she was regressing to uncommunicative state while under constant supervision. It seemed the best way for her to recover and be able to answer any questions was to do so in a more familiar environment to her and I knew Captain Rogers would keep an eye on her. I did, however, insist on a SHIELD detail. While that base was shut down, we are not yet sure if that was the only one. And - unfortunately - we cannot be sure that something was not implanted in Dr. Foster. They will report in should they find anything unusual either in her behavior or in someone taking an unhealthy interest."

—-

"Understood." That's one reassurance, and something May is glad of. A change of topic, now. "Have you been briefed on the attacks on two SHIELD agents in Central Park and the prime suspects involved?" She knows that Carter doesn't usually deal with the arcane (or even Fae), but this might be something she'd want to hear.

—-

Peggy nods. At least, for now, that threat is lessened. It may crop up again another time, but for now it is fixed. "I am not sure if I do. I was brought in on an interrogation of an elven-like woman who admitted to killing some of our agents. She managed to use something in order to escape. Are the events linked?"

—-

May nods. "She is one of the two suspects involved. The other is a male, goes by the name Darkedge. He claims to be the Norse mythology version of a dark elf. Uses some rather interesting weaponry. I wanted to give you an update personally, as he might cross paths with you while you're trying to track down Barnes." That, and he seems particularly prone to violence. "He's distinctive enough to spot easily, his hair is metallic silver." She then offers the top folder from the ones she's carrying. Inside is a photo of Darkedge taken the first time they were able to take him into custody, before he managed to escape.

—-

Peggy takes the folder from May and flips it open. Studying the features, she nods. "Yes, the woman claimed she knew a man named Darkedge. They seem very attached. She did not like us accusing him of murder and seemed to believe herself above our laws." Closing the folder, she hands it back to May. "Thank you for the heads up. I appreciate it. I had no idea what he looked like. I'll be sure to keep an eye out for him. As both of them have managed to escape custody, we should perhaps discuss how to deal with threats that are able to leave by magical means."

—-

"I already have our staff mages working on increasing the range and spectrum of the wards they have on the building." After all, they were originally designed only for demonic and arcane infiltration. "I do know that Darkedge at least is extremely sensitive to light, and if the mythology is to be believed," and it increasingly proves to be accurate, "he's likely also sensitive to iron."

—-

"Staff mages." Peggy repeats the word, tone very dry. That is not something she ever expected to say. However, she is not about to turn her nose up about magic or mages: she's seen that it is certainly a part of the world and she should be prepared for it. "Yes, that's good, then." She takes in the information about Darkedge with another nod. "That's good to know. Perhaps this is a good case for Iron Man." A joke, if her smirk is any indication. "If I find him on any of my missions, I'll be sure to alert you. I hope you'll do the same should you run into Barnes?"

—-

May nods. "Count on it. Though, Stark wouldn't do so well against him. His armor isn't really made out of iron." How she knows that, she's not about to say.

"Oh, new agents and consultants you want to watch out for. There's a forensic specialist on consultation now named Barry Allen, a probationary WAND agent and arcane specialist named Lara Croft, a arcane consultant named Hector Hall." She pauses as if trying to remember. "Oh, and Logan is back on the payroll." She might actually remember the man. Sure seems like he's been around forever.

—-

There's a bit of a grin as May tells her that Iron Man's suit is not actually made of iron. Peggy nods and shrugs. "Darkedge doesn't have to know that, though."

The mention of the new agents is met with a nod. "I've met Allen and Croft previously." Or, well, she met Allen previous to his employ here. Croft she met right before the interrogation of Vanjasyl. Hall and Logan, however, are not people she knows personally. "I'll be on the lookout for them."

—-

"Good." May glances down at her folders. "I think that's everything on my side." And, as if to prove that she's finally done infosharing with Carter, she steps back to the door.

—-

Smiling, Peggy nods. "Thank you for stopping by, Agent May. It's always a pleasure. We'll have to catch up again soon. Perhaps over tea?"

—-

"All right." May opens the door. "Until then." She steps through, and closes the door behind her quietly.
