Fade In…

New York summers are hot and humid and thats as true after the sun sets as it is during the day the only difference being the outdoors becoming slightly more bearable in general after dark. It's actually not too bad tonight. The breeze from the ocean is up and coming in as far as M-Town. Which is why Bobby Drake is walking down the darkened streets. He still lives in this area and it's gotten a bit more peaceful since the Purifiers stopped their terror campaign.

Or, well, had it stopped for them.

"So we had a chat with Roberto today." He's filling in his teammates. Well one of them, the other one was there. "He's going to help us with our Selene Gallo problem as much as he can. We've got the green light from the Sokovian government to go in and extract Wayland Calvera… which reminds me, Wanda do you speak Sokovian?"

We've got the green light from the Sokovian government to go in and extract Wayland Calvera… which reminds me, Wanda can you go with that group when we finally send it. We'll need someone who speaks Sokovian and you're it."

"Of course I can go with them" Wanda smiles. "Just let me know when I am needed and I will be there. I do not have anything else to do" she shrugs. Wanda is dressed casual tonight - stockings, short summer dress, scarlet jacket (always a scarlet jacket). It's quite like her old homeless outfit but at least this version is clean, new and without holes. "I do not trust the Sokovians" she adds as an afterthought, "So I hope they will be staying out of the way."

Brin had most certainly been there. She and Berto had hashed out a few details to get into the Hellfire Club, but there was more planning and preparation to do. "I'll check the teams passports and visa's. Make sure they're ready to go whenever." There's so much admin work to be done and with the team being independant, some of the load that 'employees' might handle has been spread over the team to a degree.

"Any idea who else will be going, Bobby?" Wanda's last comment gets a small smile "That's a good policy to adopt, Wanda. Everything I've seen on the Sokovians makes my skin crawl a little."

"I don't trust them either Wanda…" Bobby gives the scarlet dressed woman a sidelong grin. "But I do trust you, which is the other reason I wanted you to go. You know that area, you know the culture and you know the language. Which means you'll know what's really going on if they decide to renege on their promise." For now though, everything looks good. Officially X-Red will be there at the Sokovian's request to extract a 'terrorist' back to the US. Making sure it stays that way is one of Bobby's top concerns right now.

"Can you tell us anything useful about them before w-" There's a whirring sound in the background like metal gears grinding that started out soft, barely noticeable, and rapidly gets louder.

"Wait, does anyone here th-"

Something big lurges out from behind a midrise apartment complex up ahead. It looks like a large clockwork spider, but it's clearly been damaged. Two of the legs aren't moving at all. The whole thing seems to be made of brass but shines with a splotchy reddish glow, as if it had a… rash of some kind.

"What the actual…" Bobby doesn't finish that statement. He just kind of stares.

"I'd like you to go, Brin, if you can. Tabitha if we can catch her. Illyana'd be handy but she's got flood control standby. Beyond that… Mike if he's about." They'll catch who they can.

"You do not want to bring Vulcan" Wanda asks delicately before nodding to Bobby's reason for sending her. "I hope that my passport works" she says to Brin…and she is worried about it. She's an illegal alien!

The screeching makes her turn towards the source. "I heard…" she begins before setting eyes on the clockwork spider looming around the corner…and not looking well. Wanda's fingers start to fidget and writhe, her magic drawn forth. "I do not think it is behaving normally" she mutters to the others before a tilt of her head at the reddish glow. "Did I do that?"

"I can, Bobby. I may have to move some things around." That's something she's used to doing. "I've no objection to asking Gabriel, but he's not officially a team member." He'd been … reluctant the last time she'd spoken to him. Maybe it's time to try again.

The grinding and screeching has her turning and staring as well "Is that … a rash?" she peers "Uh, I think we should do something about that before it hurts someone."

Wanda can definitely sense her own magic. And she might well recall… parting with some of it, some time ago. To a certain someone. After a certain other someone who is right next to her had… made things… emotionally difficult for her.

The spider lurches right toward Bobby which would be a damn sight more intimidating if it weren't having so much trouble. Two more of its legs seize and… are those plants growing out of the joints? The thorax opens and man sized clockwork soldiers start to spill out. These are moving better but still kind of herky-jerky. They form rough ranks and part as a taller clockwork figure emerges and lurches unsteadily toward Wanda.

"What… have… you done… to us?" It grates. "Your gift… out of control…"

Yep…this is all Bobby's fault. Wanda stares at the things coming at her, in particular the speaking clockwork figure. "My gift?" She knows she did something but the details are all a bit cloudy…and she doesn't really like admitting it to the others in X-Red. "I am sorry" she says to the clockwork creatures. "It is chaos and chaos by its very nature is uncontrollable. As time goes on there are more and more permutations it can take." Wanda frowns. "I truly am sorry" and she does sound sincere. "I can try to help if you let me."

"Stop apologising and do something…" Brin has skittered backward a little. Her green and gold bow appearing in her hands. Yeah, she's not going anywhere near these things. They're hard to beat and the fight dirty.

She'll wonder later about the figures comments.

"You gave the gift… The King has sent us to find you. There must be a unification…" Why does that word, 'unification', sound so very, very sinister.

"Only the merger of Chaos and Clockwork will reverse…"

One of the other clockwork figures breaks in. "Bring them to the scrapyard!" The soldiers lurch forward in unison. "Show them what they have wrought before the two with the Queen join it!"

"Queen?" Bobby glances over at Wanda. "Okay guys you're gonna need to just… chill." The ice nerd puts up a wall.

Turns out that was the wrong thing to do. The spider lurches and kicks a huge hole in it. Bobby needs a bigger wall. Also, the clockwork chaos zombies are charging them.

Wanda is actually more surprised by Brinley's words than anything from the Clockwork people. She is trying to be a peacemaker…at least she thought she was…but apparently it was the wrong thing to do. And then there's talk of a Queen. What girl doesn't want to be a queen? This one if it involves merging.

"It is my magic" Wanda explains to Brinley. "I cannot attack it head on. There is no telling what will happen." With that in mind, Wanda raises her hands, that sparkle and glow with scarlet energy, before unleashing her chaos on the road before the advancing line of soldiers and the huge ice destroying spider. A pit to who knows where at least a few will stumble into - she hopes.

Brins just skittish. Everytime they've come up against these things, it's hurt a lot.

"Merger? Unification? I don't like the sound of this." Brin murmurs, giving herself a little more room and groaning at Bobby's pun. "I could have sworn you ate not so long ago."

As the zombies give chase, glowing green and gold arrows find their marks but Brin knows the best she can do is slow them down. She just hopes she and Bobby can hold them long enough for Wanda to do her thing.

Bobby makes with the ice. It's not directed at the constructs but at the ground. They're not walking so well, so he lays down a thin sheet of black ice, making the sidewalk and roadway slick. As Wanda unleashes her own magic it turns some of his ice into gouts of scalding steam hot enough to actually melt some of the joints on the brass constructs. Others tumble into a seemingly bottomless void as Brin knocks still others down. That's done for a dozen of them but others leap the chasm and manage to keep their footing, coming right at the three mutants with outstretched hands. Wanda they try to grab and drag off. Bobby and Brin…

Not so lucky.

Peacemaking does not extend to seeing her friends hurt. "Run away!" she yells to Brinley and Bobby. "They only want me!" Wanda has no intention of going peacefully though. Her hands still glow with her magic and she still attempts to fight them off. She blasts one but its bronze skin just sizzles without damage as her power meets her power and…who knows? It may destroy one while making another into a super robot.

Wanda flings her magic downwards and shoots up into the sky. "Follow me!" she calls down to the clockwork creeps before rising above the giant spider and then moving behind it to get it to turn. "It is me you want. I am your queen!"

Brin won't run. She'll stand beside her teammates. As Wanda's chaos magic arcs out, it catches some of her arrows - making some disappear, others useless but some … multiple.

As they reach for her and Bobby, the bow disappears and a barrier appears between her, Bobby and the constructs.

Maybe they'll follow Wanda? And then what?

Bobby's not likely to run away either. However Wanda taking flight is a wonderful distraction. One tries to grab her and fails. Another climbs on that one's shoulders and tries to grab her… and just misses. Bobby finally manages to herd his away from him and starts to pen them in with Brin, building a wall around them. If Wanda can… somehow banish them… or drop them down another deep hole…

Wanda would have gone with them if it saved her friends but thankfully Brin and Bobby have been doing their thing while she was distracting them. That penning in certainly helps the situation and the witch takes a deep breath before her magics are unleashed. Doing her best to avoid the clockwork machines themselves, she opens up a portal beneath them. A portal that spins like a tornado and starts to suck them downwards and to…who knows where. Wanda hopes that some poor peaceful dimension isn't about to be invaded by these things but what else can she do?

Maintaining that shield takes a bit of work and Brin maneouvres it to work with with Bobby's icewalls. Thankfully, Wanda opens that portal and she's not going to have to maintain that construct for too much longer.

As the Clockworks disappear, the brunette breaths a little more easily "Well down, Wanda… anyone hurt?"

The whirling vortex sucks down the spider, the ice and the clockwork zombie things. The last of them go clawing at the pavement before they're consumed and it closes.

Bobby lets his guard drop and takes a deep breath. "Good work Wanda." He's not hurt. Brin doesn't look it… Wanda? Ah, she looks okay.

"Come on, let's get off the streets. We can go to my place, it's not far." Later he'll ask what happened and if Wanda needs help.

For now he just wants the safety of his apartment for himself and his friends.

And a cold beer.
