Checking Up

April 26, 2016:

Dr. McCoy checks in on Cessily after her exposure to X-Men agendas

//Xavier Institute //

Xavier's Institute grounds are located on 1407 Graymalkin Lane in Westchester County between Graymalkin Lane itself and Breakstone Lake (30 miles outside of NYC itself). A large portion of this is acres upon acres of woodland forest. To the farthest eastern portion of the Institute's grounds there is a stretch of low foothills.

Upon entering the Institute grounds immediately past the heavy gated entrance one finds themselves on a carefully paved road that splices in two directions, west and east.

The west leads to the School for Higher Learning where gifted youngsters are educated and taught to use their unique talents. Here almost year around children and teachers are housed.

To the east miles away lies Xavier's Mansion where Professor Xavier himself and some faculty members of the school live. These "special" individuals are those aware of Xavier's more clandestine operations, the administration and training of the X-Men.

Beyond the neatly walled mansion's yard in those foothills is an obscure landing strip that leads to a hangar complex and a subtly hidden facility. A facility that houses underground sublevels, a danger room, Cerebro and the training halls of one of the most advanced mutant fighting teams in the world.

An underground monorail connects the School for Higher Learning with the Charles Xavier's Mansion and the X-Men's Hidden Complex. Security is tight in this region, by means of limited magical warding, advanced future tech security systems and telepathic sweeps. Tread carefully

Fade In…

Cessily Kincaid is aware that a big series of school exams are coming, so today she's not actually working on hand to hand combat training, life or death superhero stuff. Instead, she's sitting at a table, forehead in her palm, leaning over a book open in front of her.

Beast has also been getting ready for the end of the year…making sure everything is in order, running study sessions, and answering any questions students may have. He was making his way from one point of the Institute to another when he caught sight of Cessily.
There is a pause before he approaches and glances at the book she has open before her. "Studying?" As if that wasn't obvious.

Cessily Kincaid looks up slowly from her math book, her head tilting slightly. She bites her lip,a nd nods up at the authority figure. "Yeah, I've um, I've spent a lot of time on um, Xmen stuff, so I have to catch up a little…"

Beast nods, "Well, let me know if you need any help," is offered genially, with a smile. He does glance around a moment before he takes a seat at the table, across from the student, "I also wanted to check in with you. See how you were holding up with all of the 'X-Men Stuff'. A lot has been thrown at you recently."

Cessily Kincaid sits up a bit more, paying attention to Hank as she listens to what he has to say. She inhales deeply, and gives a little nod as he sits. "Yeah um, considering one of the first things I had to deal with was that video… yeah. A lot mre intense than just, getting out of the institute grounds, going into the city, adn leaning how to function. The training's hard, but trying to wrap my head around that is really rough."

"You did sort of get tossed into the thick of things," Hank admits, "And while I don't agree with the method, I do agree with the action in that…we're so sheltered here." Hank gestures, indicating the Institute, "That sometimes the bad things that happen seem like they're so very far away. In order to bring about change, we do have to be aware of what's happening around us and what's happening much closer than we think."

Cessily Kincaid nods. "That's basically been my training, you know? I'm learning how to fight. And I'm just… taking trips into the city. I hate to do it, and I feel so… like I don't belong. But it's good practice I guess?"

"Practice…is a word for it, I suppose. I think it's more like building up a thick skin to be able to get through life and pretend like it's normal." He gives a shrug then, "You -should- feel like you belong. But it's hard when everyone makes us think otherwise." He completely understands her difficulties. "Do you have any questions about it? Or…anything, really?"

Cessily Kincaid bites her lip. "Well, when I go, you know. I go as a tourist. I dress like a normal person, and just… pretend. Sometimes people ignore me, and act like I'm just made up weird. But anyway. When I go, sometimes I see, you know, trouble. A copule of times I have. One time I just, you know, went toward it to see what was going on, and I hit a bad guy. One time I confronted a person to see if it was a bad guy, and ended up running away with him from trouble. I can't tell if I should just be, hiding since I'm not in a suit or anything."

"That's entirely up to you," is offered, "But just be careful that you don't bring anyone back to the Institute or say anything about your affiliation here. Some of us are fairly open in how we operate…look at X-Red. But some of us stay very secretive with our affiliations. Above all." Hank sighs here, "We have to protect the Institute and those who attend it."

Cessily Kincaid nods and smirks. "Reminds me. you knwo the guy I wasn't sure was a bad guy? It actually turned out to be someone who's been working on, you know, stuff. I was supposed to give his phone number to Remy but I have to catch him around… which is hard when half the time I'm working on school."

Beast presses his lips together, "Mmm. Yes, getting in touch with Remy is like trying to find a needle in a haystack. If I see him, I'll let him know to seek you out. Otherwise, if you want to give the number to me or Dr. Grey or Mr. Summers, we can take it off your hands and look into things."

Cessily Kincaid bites her lip and nods, writing out the temporary number that Shift gave her. "Here, he's almost like me. Only his mutation um, he can turn into a gas." she explains. "At least I think he said it was a mutation, I wasn't sure."

"You memorized the number?" Hank asks, an eyebrow lifted. There's a brief frown as he takes the number, "I'll pass this information on, thank you." He gives a nod then and glances back to her and her book, "I won't interrupt you any more from your studying, but I just wanted to make sure you were holding up all right. Please don't hesitate to come to me if you have any questions…about anything."

Cessily Kincaid shakes her head. "Well… I memorized it long enough to write it down." She points to her phone. "I put it there so I wouldn't forget." She then tears off the piece of paper and slides it over to him. "Thank you."
