Fade In…

After that whole debacle with the Codex, Pepper made Ryden PROMISE to keep in touch, and to let her know if he needed anything at any point. And, based on the way his request finally came across, she kind of got the impression that he only did so while being pecked in the head by Damnyou. Repeatedly.

Waiting for the man and his avian familiar in the lobby of Stark Tower, she is seated in one of the many comfortable chairs scattered around the lobby for both aesthetic and comfort purposes.

Mind of Pepper and appearances for once, Ryden's made quite the effort to dress normally. Black leather loafers, brand new grey jeans and a a navy blue dress shirt overtop of which he's wearing an old bomber style dark brown leather jacket. The only unusual thing about him aside from the goose waddling along side, is his old travel pack hanging at his pack. He never goes anywhere without, at least purposely.
Man and goose both ignore the stares of the people they pass, this time mostly due to Damnyou's presence inside Stark Tower. "Pepper! Hi!." Ryden smiles and waves, his pace increasing as he heads towards her. The lorekeeper is even freshly showered, shaved and has had his hair cut to something managable looking instead of curled tangly mess.

Pepper Potts looks up then smiles and stands to greet the man and his bird. "Ryden, hello. Wow, you're all gussied up. Do you have a date after this or something?" She's clearly teasing the man by her smile, and before he can really voice any kind of protest, she's crouching down to say hello to the gander. "And how are you today?"

"You have to be out of your mind." Fenris says from not far away. Why is he here? Quite simply. Pepper has gone crazy.

Well okay, he'd heard Ryden was out and about and he's looking in on him. And Pepper. Ryden is something of a disaster magnet though. He might not think so if he knew what kinds of disaster areas SHIELD keeps walking around the Tri but that information is classified.

Ryden seems startled. He blinks and his mouth opens and closes a few times as he cranes his head around and looks down at Pepper and Damnyou in bemusement. A date? He'd just wanted to look normal for her because the damn goose had reminded him that last time he'd looked… The lorekeeper squints at the goose with suspicion, and mild reproach. Damnyou ignores the look to fawn over and make happy goose noises at Pepper. "Mmph.." Ryden rolls his eyes. Damn thing better not be trying to set him up with his friend because—- The mental insult Damnyou sends back before the man can finish the thought has him sputtering aloud. Something to the effect of "In your dreams, magi. She's so far out of your league, you could be the last guy on earth and.." "Dude! Harsh." Ryden scowls and mutters. "Uh i'm.. I'm alright." Ryden's scowl turns into a smile, one that is slightly pained but, hey, he's trying. He's here and has made a real effort. And is very determinedly not thinking about the Vishanti or the next trial.
Then Fenris is arriving and echoing his familiar's thoughts from a moment ago and Ryden frowns. "Not you too. Geeze! I just wanted to try a thing, damn." Next time he goes to visit the God-Wolf he's gonna wear the most outlandish thing he… what would that even be? Ryden sighs. Whatever. Maybe he'll just go naked.. damn he already did that time he showed up on the unicorn didn't he? The lorekeeper's memory of that particular event is of course, rather clouded.

"Be nice, God-Wolf." The tall strawberry blonde at his side has a slight aura of amusement around her. "Hello again, Pepper". Astryd's wearing faded blue jeans and long tunic top, hair falling down around her shoulders.

Giving Damnyou one last fond little pat, she straightens up again just in time to miss the odd little exchange between the gander and his pet human. "Well, whatever the reason, it's a good look for you."

That's about when Fenris and Astryd show up, and she turns to greet them with a smile as well. "Hello. What brings you both by the Tower today?"

Fenris lets out a low faux grumble. "If I'm too nice they'll all forget I'm a monster." He retorts quietly to Astryd as he steps into the room.

"Mostly checking in on things. I realized that there's still a lot of 'resonant' equipment in the building at were and someone's starting to play with the Ley Line network again. I've got people on it but I thought it best in the mean time if I came and took it down. I don't think you want the tower shaking itself apart, catching fire, exploding or bringing all the machines to life because some random wave of sea magic crashed through."

"Thanks, Pepper." He brightens at the compliment. "You look lovely as always." Ryden boggles at Fenris and then Astryd whom he's just noticed. "What? Resonant.. what?" It had not occured to Ryden to check for such things when he took the place. Actually, not much beyond loafing on the sofa in depression has occured to the lorekeeper of late. "Why would sea magic randomly target new york?" He also clearly has no idea of the current danger.
Meanwhile, Damnyou is eyeing Astryd consideringly. After a moment he takes a couple experimental waddle steps in her direction.

"With your aura, Fenris?" Astryd quirks a brow as she walks beside him. "It's hard to forget." The Goddess seems to enjoy needling the God-Wolf.

"As Fenris says, Pepper. Although, I had to drop some paperwork into your HR department." She's registered for temp work, as she has with other companies around the city. "And thought to kill two birds with stone."

Rydens interaction with the goose gets a snort amusement. Fenris seems to attract some of the oddest people. Oh good, now the goose is waddling towards her.

Pepper Potts blinks and ohs softly at Fenris' explanation. "Well, by all means. Let me know if there's anything I can do to help." Even if that help is just getting him access to several parts of the Tower and making sure Security leaves him be to work. "And Ryden, you called to ask me a favor. What was that request?"

"Won't take me too long." Fenris kneels down and Astryd and Ryden at least can feel his magic reach out and sink into the iron and stones and structure of the building and pull calling something to him. What exactly will work take a moment to figure.

"You've been under your rock again, haven't you Ryden. Want to explain it to him, Astryd?"

"Oh! Right. Well, I wanted to take you out to dinner to say thanks and see if you had any ideas how to have a.. Damnyou said I should have a housewarming thing. I'm not sure what is considered appropriate for that kinda thing these days. I just want something small and not crazy." In other words, absolutely nothing like his usual parties. "I also need to get more furniture and a new sofa." The lorekeeper colors slightly as Damnyou turns in his direction and makes a rude sound before continuing on to Astryd and looking up at her. "Qwek?" The little goose gently butts the top of his head against her knee, seeking attention. "Is this something I can help with Fenris?" The lorekeeper asks. Alot of people work and live in this tower and he doesn't want random magic striking here. Not to mention it's his new home. Ryden would have to think for a bit to remember for sure the last time he actually had a home. It's been… a long while. He's agreed to this much of his familiar's plan at least. For a moment, he goes quiet to 'watch' what Fenris is doing.

Astryd looks at the Gander as it butts her knee and lets out a long suffering sigh before bending down and giving it a perfunctory pat on the head. She's considering turning into a raven to just see how it responds.

"Someone is seeking to wake Jorgamundr, the Midgard Serpent." she begins to explain the situation "Well, more appropriately someone is trying to change the fate of someone … and they think that disturbing the Serpent is part of the process." there's a little more to it than that, but that will explain the Water magic.

Pepper Potts smiles at Ryden when he mentions his reasons for wanting to speak with her. "How about a compromise? I'll help you with the housewarming and the furniture and we'll call it even. Though… didn't the flat already have furniture included?" She pulls her phone. "JARVIS, I thought the apartment we leased out to Ryden was supposed to be fully furnished. Was this not the case?" She leaves the explanation of things that really should remain in the mythology books to Astryd and Fenris. They both know how to make it sound plausible.

Fenris sets a wooden case on the credenza nearby and opens it. It's empty but lined in velvet as if something goes there. And then he steps away and listens to what Ryden is asking of Pepper. As he does, behind him, something like a thin silvery snake slithers into the office and then up the credenza and into the case. Then more. Then it starts to come through the roofing, dripping in rivulets, all of it pooling into an ingot like shape in that box. Nothing more for him to add at the moment.

"Uh. Well sure, it ws. But He.." Ryden jerks a thumb at Damnyou. "Says a home isn't a home if you don't pick out your own sh..stuff. And the couch is.." There's a long sounding explantion of Qweks and goose noises from Damnyou that causes the lorekeeper to blush furiously. 'Covered in some self absorbed depressed idiot's gross sweaty ass germs' isn't something he's gonna translate.. instead Ryden continues. "I haven't had a place of my own, a real home in like, a century maybe? So I wanna do it right.
The lorekeeper turns and stares at Astryd's explanation as his familiar seems satisfied by Astryd's pat and moves over to watch the God-Wolf. "What?! That's the craziest fucking thing I've heard in.. in.. do they not understand the consequences?! Who the hell.." He splutters and gestures wildly in disbelief.

Seeing the silvery substance filling the case that Fenris has opened, Astryd looks to him in question. Water magic, God-Wolf? Her magic is different and Fenris' far outstrips it.

Given that the God and the Goddess are straight out of those mythology books Pepper is thinking of, maybe they can make it sound plausible. "Oh, we believe they do understand the consequences. And seek to break the cycle. We have our suspicions but investigations continue."

Pepper Potts watches … whatever it is that Fenris is doing over there. "So, um, why did these people choose now to start trying to change fate? Is it because of all the disturbances the ley lines have had to deal with lately?" Could it be somethign worse than that?

"Mr. Sable," JARVIS emits politely, "Once you have selected the sofa you wish to procure, notify me and I shall see that it is delivered to your residence."

"Moonsilver." Fenris murmurs back to Astryd. "I set it out throughout the building to conduct magic to the top when we were using the place as an obelisk." Fun story that. Full of people doing things they really shouldn't as is often the case.

Since Astryd has more or less already explained most of it. "Why now I'm not sure, but these things are rarely a coincidence. We're looking into it."

Ryden just stares at Astryd with an expression of horrified disbelief. High and drunk and up for a week solid and he doubts he'd come up with such a stupid idea. He's well aware most people find him insane but the lorekeeper isn't actually crazy despite often reinforcing that belief in others. It's just a way to shield and protect himself from attachment and pain.
Damnyou jumps up and stares into the case, eyeing the silvery liquid in a way that suggests the gander is thinking about jumping into it. Ryden is too distracted to notice what his familiar is up to, or thinking about. "You know what would be nice? If those Vishanti assholes would do something useful for a change instead of torture people and I don't know, maybe, actually save the world they're supposedly protecting?!" Yeah, there is still a lot of rage there over the Codex and it's aftermath and the very troubling changes Ryden noticed in Zee, whether she chose that path herself or not, they started her on it.
Ryden jumps at Jarvis's voice and looks around in confusion before grinning. "Ooh bitchin'." Robot butler!!! "Yes, Sir. I'll do that. Thank you."

But where are they watching or listening from? Shit.. maybe he shoulda gotten dressed before ducking into the hall to grab the paper. "Yes, Sir. I'll do that. Thank you."

"Ah, I see." Astryd murmurs back to Fenris and giving Ryden a slight shrug. "Who's to say what the will of the elder gods are?" The Vishanti are known to her, at least. But like most Gods and Goddesses, their will is capricious and they like to see their 'children' struggle. How else do they grow. That … and sometimes they simply don't care.

Glancing up at JARVIS's voice, Rydens response gets a smirk. "Lady Pepper, we are investigating. We … are somewhat at a loss ourselves."

Pepper Potts nods to Astryd. "If there's anything I can do to help the investigation, just let me or JARVIS kn…" She's interrupted by a ping from her phone. Looking at its small screen, she sighs faintly and looks at the others. "I need to answer this. Please make yourselves at home and ask JARVIS if you need anything." WIth that, she's answering the call and stepping away.

Ryden rolls his eyes in response. As far as he's concerned fate and the gods can all go kiss his… Damnyou looks at him and the lorekeeper suddenly blurts out "If you say gross sweaty naked ass one more time!!!!…." Oh shit. People are staring. The goose is qwekling in amusement, his plan to jump into the liquid moonlight seemingly forgotten. For the third time this evening Ryden blushes then coughs and sputters. "I.. I uh.. I'm going to go get a drink of water!" He heads over to the water cooler, cursing Damnyou under his breath.
