Fade In…

The silence of the night is punctured by a scream, a pair of screams actually, one male, one female, and an almighty shriek. A young couple on a date, well they had been anyway, sprints down a Chinatown street shadows seem to stir and skitter behind them. Glowing red eyes peer out from alleyways as the darkness chases the couple. "What are they?" The man asks looking back. His companion has no answer.

Further down the road there's a clatter of hooves and out from an alley a hooded man on a glowing elk darts onto the boulevard and up in the direction of the other two. He's got a crossbow in hand that he looks like he's loading. "Damn vargr." He mutters, eyeing the creeping, rolling darkness ahead of him.

***

Misfit hears the silence of the night cut sharply by that scream. Darkness. Curtains drawn. In the basement. In the middle of the night. No parents. She bat grapples herself towards the where the scream came from and takes up a perch on the edge of the building to get a better look at what is transpiring down below. "Lets see … fleeing couple check…. monsters check….. Darkness… check" with emphasis there "And queue the elk…" she looks down the way "Check…"

***

Rain was picking up food for herself and Captain on the way home. Fortunately, broom sticks are silent, swift travel. She has a bag of takeout tied to the end of the broom, and Captain riding along behind her. Talk about stereotypical. But they do hear the scream. That's not good. Not rare in GOtham, but not good. She heads towards the source of the sound. Wait? Is that a glowing elk? Swoo— "CONCENTRATE!" Captain bats Rain's back with a paw. battabattabattabatta.

***

Walking along the alley behind the neighborhood apothecary wasn't something the feint of heart often found themselves doing willingly at this time of night, yet the sounds of humming can be heard faintly echoing off the grimy brick walls. "Hmm hmm hm hmmmmm hm… hmm.. hmm…. HMMMM.." Connor Hawke held a bag of trash in his right hand as he made his way from the Bodega to the dumpster, seemingly oblivious to his surroundings.

As the trash-bag is skillfully tossed into the filthy blue container with a resounding thud, Connor hears the piercing screams, and turns quickly on his heels. Without thinking he begins to run towards the sounds of the screams, his eyes scanning the alley as he sprinted. He stops for just a second to snatch up a thick piece of rhubarb that had been discarded from a work truck.

***

Zee had been eating a meal in Chinatown, when she hears the scream. Taking what remains of her meal, in a takeaway container, and dropping in a bin, the young magician walks briskly towards the sound, just in time to see the fleeing couple head towards her. As she walks, she murmurs and her street clothes fade to her stage costume… complete with the diamond encrusted collar.

***

Just as the elk pulls even with the advancing wave of darkness it fades to reveal half a dozen extremely large red eyed hounds. The man atop the elk lets loose with his crossbow, works a slide on it and ratches in another bolt, then looses again. A pair of loud cracks echo out as the concussive bolts explode in front of the hounds, sending them all tumbling down as the rider passes them and circles back. "Okay… five… six… seven omen houds." He sighs. "Sure. Yeah. I got this." He's as yet unaware that he's got any help.

***

Connor bolts around the corner, sliding to a stop at what he saw. Blinking, the boy glances around at any others that might've gathered before reaching up and snatching his red hoodie up over his features. It was a moral dilemma after-all, fighting animals. Even evil, red-eyed hounds from hell were still creatures. Sighing, Connor calls out in a gruff voice, "Eh.. need any help?" He's of course asking a man with a crossbow atop an Elk if he needed help. The irony in this couldn't have struck him at any more of an awkward time as he suddenly snorts a half-laugh.

Connor realized that whatever these creatures were.. they would probably not hesitate to eat him, so he grabs an empty sake bottle off the ground, and tosses it full force into the pack to draw some attention away.. "Oh sensei would be disappointed in my unpreparedness.." He says to himself as he braces himself for an attack, the rebar held up in professional Kendo stance.

***

Everything is awesome… dogs! Well sort of Dogs. More like giant hellhounds. She squints watching the Elk shoot at them… and then a bottle tosser… "Obviously this is a job for Dark Vengeancing." she declares dramatically to no one but herself up there on the roof. Still She leaps off the roof, and bounces out of existance >pinkurple> about … oh two stories down…. and reappears right above a dog landing on it's back feet first with a lot of momentum. Misfit smash!

***

At least it's not the magma drooling Hell Puppies that got out ages ago. They were sweet, really. Just puppies. Except when you're large, drooling magma and super strong, puppy shenanigans are less shenanigans. Still, Rain definitely adores the man riding the elk and helping him out is definitely a thing. And coincidentally, they have an awful lot of food. "If they like beef lo mein, we can probably lure them somewhere for you," Rain offers helpfully, coming up behind Kane on - you guessed it, a flying broomstick.

Actually, Rain will whistle at one of the dogs, pulling some beef from a take out container and tossing it to to — "oh dear." Oh, poor doggy. Well then.

***

Joining the scene, Zee stops next to the young man with the piece of Rebar and grins to The Fox "Fancy seeing you here, Fox" and throws a wave to Rain, Captain and Misfit "Hi all… nice hit Misfit." Watching Rain try to lure the dogs off, Zee looks back to The Fox "I'm assuming light will affect them?"

***

The dog is definitely hurt by Misfit's landing. There's a yelp and a crack of bone as it goes down… for a moment. Then it stands back up, clearly quite upset. "Yeah, light will affect them… food… not so much. They're more pain and agony kind of guys." The fox-masked druid isn't given time to say more because suddenly the omen hounds are springing into action. One catches an iron tipped bolt to the chest as it leaps right for him, then the Fox's blade comes out… moments before something side swipes him and knocks him from his elk.

Conner finds himself rushed and Misfit's victim rounds on her with a hate filled snarl. Zee and Rain, being right next to the Fox, find themselves in the path of a charging pack.

***

Connor focuses his Ki, taking a deep breath to circulate the increasing energy through-out his body. The young-man springs into action, the rebar being used like a katana as he rapidly and efficiently beats the animal, his strength increased by the Ki that is flowing freely. Connor never lets up, the rebar showing signs of decreasing strength as it's frame begins to bend. Connor take several steps back before parkouring sideways onto a dumpster. The rebar is then used like a boomerang on one of the further distanced hounds. "So.. uh.. how do.. we get rid of these things? Light? I left my flashlight at home.."

***

Misfit cocks her head to the side "Light?" she digs around and then flips a tiny little object out at the dog snarling at her all hatefully. There is a bright flash right in it's face. Misfit's goggles totes tinted for a moment as she uses a small bat flash bang on the dog… … Oh right.. BANG

***

"Well, I'm not sharing my fish," Captain states simply. "Bad dogs, the lot of you," He pronounces. Yes, he is a talking, orange tabby house cat in a trench coat with a Gotham accent. Fortunately, Rain thinks a moment. That rebar wielding guy seems to know what he's doing. "Basic D&D strategy. Let me bless your weapon." And she's not about to throw dinner away now that it's apparent food won't work. She is kind of quietly impressed by Misfit, mind. She's managing not to blush too much around Fox. "Fox!"

And he's about to be Beggin' Strips. Nooooooo! With that in mind, Rain is on the case. Enter the (pagan) holy sneakers. "Well…" He chucked the rebar, so holy sneakers it is! Rain has to move out of the way, taking her broomstick up a bit. They have to save Fox, and if that means blessing someone's shoes to kick the dogs off him, so be it.

***

Zee just has time to nod at The Fox as the pack charge them. Looking up at the street lights and laterns that string across the street, she narrows her eyes and then looks at Connor "I can do light… it's how much I can give you." Zee takes a step back and gestures with her hands to the lights

~ ghtiL pU sihT treetS ylthgirB ~

The lights will flare brightly in the street, focussing most of the light just above the hounds.

The problem with spell casting, is that it leaves the pracitioner vulnerable while the spell is cast and held.

***

The Fox is down, though he's not been turned into bacon just yet. Two hounds pile on him… oops, make that one hound. As the light from Misfit's flashbang and Zee's spell both shine out (frying the one at Misfit's feet and sizzling the others) thirty inches of cold iron poke their way through one of the hound's backs as the druid rips it off of him. He's still got another to deal with but one is better than two.

The one that was going for Rain changes his mind as she darts out of the way and leaps at Zee instead as Connor lays into the three of them. That's another one down with that thrown bit of rebar and two more not looking so hot.

***

D&D? Blessings? It all seems kind of surreal to Connor, who at this point figures he's probably just in a dream. It isn't until his feet start glowing from whatever Rain just did to him that he realizes things.. were quite real. "I.. thanks!" It's really all he can say. Magic and demons were not his forte. He did however have glowing shoes. Sliding his right foot back and facing outwards and pointing his left foot towards the hounds, Connor focuses his Ki once again before going into a full-fledged assault using nothing but his feet. The varying range of kicks are impressive, and they are hard. Coupled with the glowing light, Connor goes about finishing up his task.

***

Right, Misfit bobs her head a little bit and fishes out a second bat flashbang even as she is already bouncing. Mental note tell Batwing these things are AWESOME. She keeps bobbing her head a bit like she is listening to music and then bounces >pinkurple> right out of existance leaving the sizzle popping fried one where she was. The next moment she reappears above the three that Connor are dealing with "Let there beee light" tossing it down into the group of Connor and three hounds beneath her and vanishing before she lands on any the ass whupping Red Hoodie.

Misfit reappears right in front of Zee, putting her arms up to take the hound and the leap that was meant for Zee … back behind her there is a FLASH.. oh and a BANG by Connor. She is halping.

***

Life with magic is pretty surreal. "You're welcome." Rain is going to do her best to help create some light from above. Behold. THE GLOWCAT. Captain sighs. "Really?" "I think you're adorable glowing." With her own light source set, Rain is going to take a pot shot with a few channeled light blasts. Yes, she can channel magic through the gun rather than bullets. It's not going to be entirely lethal, but it will hurt the dogs considerably. Plus, it's quiet. Behold, gun magic!

***

"Thanks Misfit, are you ok?" Zee's voice sounds a little strained as she holds the spell on the lights. The flashbangs that Misfit is letting off, and anything glowing, are being caught in Zee's spell as well… she wasn't specific about which light to you use… and the more light created, well… creates more light. It's getting quite bright in that area.

Focussing, the young magician starts to focus the light on the dogs, rather than letting it spill out down the alley.

***

The dogs are done for with all the light. There's one more sound of metal on flesh as Kane rises with Connor's aid in getting him clear… all is quiet. The couple who was the pack's intended lunch has long since fled. "Whew… thanks."

***

Misfit is on her back with smoldering dog on her. "Thank… goodness…. I got armor…." there is a smidge of a wheeeze there in her breathing as she just stares up at Zee.

***

"Are you okay, Fox, mysterious sneaker guy and -" Pause. "Well, everyone?" Rain comes down, lowering herself along on the broomstick. It's like a platform from a video game. And yes, Captain is on the back of the broom, glowing and wearing his trench coat. She hops off, leaving it hovering to help move the smoldering dog off of Misfit and help her up. "You're welcome. I - I'm glad to see you."

She noticed Fox again. Mysterious. Handsome. Druid. BRAIN SHUTS DOWN. Her face reddens. "I um. We won't - k-keep you guys. Did anyone need healing or - um."

***

Zee looks slightly embarrassed as she lets her spell drop. "That wasn't quite what I intended" she mutters Chewing her bottom lip, it's probably the closest any of them will see her come to being unsure of herself. "I wasn't specific enough with the spell, it got everything that created light after I let it go." Recovering her self composure sufficiently she looks to the others and flashes a smile "Are you all o.k?"

***

"I'm fine thanks." The Fox grin as he remounts his elk. "That might have gone poorly. You guys showed up at just the right time." The druid sheathes his sword and nods to the trio. "You three know how to find me, Rain, Zee, Misfit." Connor gets wave. "Nice moves." And with that he heads up the street at a canter. If anyone wants to follow they can.

***

Connor Hawke looks about towards those gathered, "Glad everyone is ok.." Without delving much into.. anything really, Connor Hawke offers a nod, and a wave of his hand before he slips off into the back alleyway. Time to get back to work!

***

Misfit will totes be teleporting, vanishing from her spot recently also occupied by a dog, to a street lamp she sits on down the way the Fox is going "Sooo what were those." she is likely to pester him a bit to learn more.

***

He rides an elk~ Rain nods. "I -" Should she follow? She hesitates. Would that be creepy? It would be creepy. What do!? She waves farewell to Connor. "See you! Be well!" At least she remembers to turn off the sneaker glow. … sure, she'll follow the Fox quietly. "They didn't seem like the hell hounds I ran into. Though, they were chasing a news paper truck and wanted to play…"

***

"See you… sneaker boy" Zee watches as Connor disappears. She's going back to order more to eat, she knows how find The Fox and will probably do so later… after she's eaten properly "Have fun you two…" Zee peels off back the way she came from "Fox" she calls out "I'll catch you later…"
