Fade In…

There was chatter on the communications that the Information Goddess of Gotham monitors… chatter that indicated something 'big' HYDRA wise might have been going down in New York, today. Of course, it was just chatter and Oracle, being charged with clearing the HYDRA threat in Gotham she is naturally interested.

Apart from Jericho Trent, there is one person the redhead knows she can reach too and get a reasonable answer. Agent Melinda May of SHIELD. Turning her comms unit to the channel reserved specifically for May, Oracle considers before actually activating it… instead, she sends a text message. May will recognise the number that appears on her phone:

// Clear to call? //

Sitting back in her chair, Oracles eyes roam the screens in front of her, watching for how she can best support her teams on the ground.

***

There are actually very few fellow SHIELD agents that May trusts enough to share information with, and Coulson is at the top of that list. Since he's driving, she pulls her phone to look at the message that just arrived. "It's Oracle," she tells Phil. She's told him about the disembodied voice that is the eyes and ears of Gotham, though possibly not in exhaustive detail. She texts back a 'Yes', then waits for the phone call that is likely to follow.

***

In the meantime, Coulson is eating a donut, drinking coffee. He's watching the screens too, just in a different way. He's also looking for intel, but not people. Location. Places he can feed to a tactical satellite and coordinate a strike around. As far he knows, no one is trying to contact May.

***

Mays phone will ring and when she answers, Oracle will speak "Agent May, a pleasure to speak with you again." She wastes little time on nicieties "I see there was some excitement in New York today that was HYDRA related."

***

Melinda May answers her phone and promptly sets it to speaker phone so Coulson can hear as well. And, like she did that one time that Hunter was in the car when Oracle called, she lets the voice on the line know. "Oracle. Agent Coulson is here." If Babs's computers are good enough, the car noises on the line might be identified as something other than the lame V6 in a standard SHIELD issue sedan. "And I heard there was some … excitement. I was busy elsewhere." As in, she led one of the strike teams that stopped the rogue helicarrier from attacking the city while resembling a giant seven-headed reptile.

***

Agent Coulson shrugs, "Excitement isn't what I'd call it. It was more like a sucker punch, seeing if we could take one on the chin and still swing like we can."

***

Interesting. Oracle cants her head a little at that news, obviously this is someone May trusts. "Pleased to meet you, Agent Coulson" her voice is digitally disguised, it's not clear if Oracle is male or female. "So there was then. As you know, May, we're monitoring the situation here in Gotham and collecting data to analyse." Coulsons words make the redhead wince slightly "Sounds like it was big." Of course the news reports have glossed over an awful lot of what went on.

***

"Calling it big is an understatement. SHIELD is very lucky that friends and allies can actually be counted upon, or it would have been worse than the attack on the Triskelion." And yet, once again, May was in the middle trying to fix the mess while various other SHIELD agents were nowhere to be seen. She silently thanks her lucky stars for Fitz, though. The kid really earned his keep today, and she is still hoping he didn't suffer any lasting injuries from his portal buster contraption.

***

Agent Coulson sips his coffee and munches his donute, glancing over to May, "Okay then, what's the play? I know you usually ask me that question but you've been more active than I am."

***

She might be an Information Goddess but Oracle is a 'real girl' and cares for the members of her team "Any injuries or casualties, May? If so, who?" She knows a number of people who could be involved in that type of action. Coulsons question has her frowning, but she wisely holds her tongue until May answers.

An alert flashes on Oracles screen and the redhead despatches GCPD to pick up some apprehended criminals.

***

Melinda May looks at Coulson then at the phone to silently indicate that she wants to hear what Oracle might have to say before making a decision on what to do next. "Trent took a hit," she starts to tell the voice on the phone, "but he left with Rasputin fast enough that I didn't get to take a good look. I'm sure he's in good hands. Pezzini's clothing took more damage than she did, Rasputin is, well, Rasputin, and I told Fitz to stay in Medical overnight in case his tech did more than land him on his ass."

May didn't really get to check up on the other teams, as the ones from the Blackbird skittered away as fast as they arrived, and the other non-SHIELD allies were patched up quickly and given a lift back to street level before any of the bigwigs got too close a look. She hopes that that wasn't a bad decision on her part. At the very least, this is twice now that that Lunair kid has been there putting her hide on the line for an agency that is equally likely to lock her up as to hire her. There are senior SHIELD agents that couldn't be bothered to help in EITHER situation.

***

Oracle nods slowly and sends a message out via her network to Aspect, checking in. "I'll see if I can get information on Trents condition, May." She genuinely cares about the hacker. The others, expect for Illyana, are really simply names for the redhead and she notes the information for later reference. Mention of Fitzs' tech has Oracles eyebrows rising "I'd heard a little about Mr Fitz's technology, May, but I haven't dug. Did it work? And I'd be interested to know if there were side effects."

***

Melinda May glances at Coulson, but he's concentrating on driving for the moment. "It worked, but the big portal that was causing everything forced him to improvise and he burned the thing out while it was strapped to his back. And, yeah. I'll keep you posted." Besides, it just might gruntle Fitz to know that Oracle, THE Oracle, was interested in his tech. Of coruse, his poor sciencey little heart might not be able to handle it.

***

Oracle would be highly amused if she knew that her interest would keep Fitz happy. "Mmmm, that sounds like a big portal and I do hope Mr Fitz is o.k." The redhead bites her bottom lip, as her eyes scan her screens. She's been directing her teams during this discussion and the GCPD are despatched once again. "Is there anything you can share about the implications for Gotham?" Oracle needs a handle on HYDRA activity and how they may fight it.

***

Melinda May gives that a few moments of serious thought. "I'm not sure, Oracle. The first thing that comes to mind is that Hydra's going to figure out sooner or later that attacking SHIELD directly is expensive, with a low probability for success. That means they'll go looking for secondary targets. And with a lack of SHIELD presence in Gotham…" she lets that thought hang. Oracle likely already knows.

***

May, Jericho and Oracle/Babs, have had this discussion and the redhead sighs "It's looking more and more that way, isn't it May?" Shaking her head, not that May will see it, Oracle continues "Batman will not tolerate the presence of SHIELD or even the JL:A in Gotham." His concerns about the Agency have been given to Oracle on a number of occassions. "I will put it to him again… using this as an example." She's not going to hold out hope there though.

Eyes watching her teams Avatars on the screens in front of her, she considers for a few minutes "I may need to do something covertly." And risk the wrath of Batman and the censure of Nightwing and, now, Robin. "When I get in touch with Jericho, I'll setup a call. There's much to discuss around that I think."

***

"If you're planning covert, may I read Romanoff in on it? Her code name is Black Widow." Oracle's computers should have a FIELD DAY with that name. "Either way, keep me in the loop." Thankfully, May does finally have Fury's premission to go off script to deal with this Hydra stuff. Especially around anything concerining Gotham, she knows she's going to need it.

***

"I know of Romanoff." Oracle had actually spoken to her, well sort of, when May was put on administrative leave. "If you vouch for her then most certainly." The redhead has no issues with the fact that she will probably need as much outside support as she can get.
