Fade In…

Something has been messing with the ley lines. Or well, someone more likely, but definitely something's out there. Odd, it seems almost deliberate. Like someone's trying to get attention. It's come to the BPRD's notice, that's for sure. Ley line power patterns don't just spike like that. It will no doubt have come to the attention of others as well. What other's its hard to say but… others.

***

The night in New York city is chilly despite the spring. The sun's departure brings temperatures down almost thirty degrees as the world settles in for the night. In the now bright green of Central Park, the wind off of the ocean cuts across the tops of the trees, sending leaves into a rustling flurry. It's enough to lend an element of the eerie to the clearing just off of the duck pond, even though there are the occasional civilians wandering around on the paths and sidewalks.
Amongst that dimly lit area, limned only by the halos of the occasional street lamps high above, there's a lone figure for the moment. He's a pale young man, sneakers, t-shirt, jeans, brown leather jacket. At a glance there's little of remark about him save that he holds a cellphone or data pad in front of him, turning left… turning right, considering his surroundings as he follows some electronics directions to a particular set of GPS coordinates.

***

Agent Stone can't fanthom why she was sent, usually it is recovery jobs or muscle jobs. It isn't like she is super magically attuned or anything. Still she is in NYC and gets tapped for the job. Really Mystique needs to do this kind of thing sometimes when a call for the field agent goes out to keep the identity intact and to maybe get a toy for her terrorist main mission.

The young woman slinks out of a car and looks at her smartphone as she follows it towards the fluctuations now "This better be something interesting… or some stupid Hydra Agents to cut.. because by god… if I am not amused someone is going to get the crap slapped out of them…" yup she is a character actor. Stone is the disgruntled put upon BPRD agent.

***

There is… something out there. Not physically, no, the park is empty. Well, empty ish. But something is moving along the ley lines. Phobos can feel it. Stone… might be able to detect it if she has the right gear. Seems that something has finally taken notice of the young god.

But more than that, there's something watching. Or someone. Not in the ley line. It's that feel of eyes on you that you sometimes get in an empty room. The 'I'm not alone' feeling. And it's creepy as hell.

***

It'd almost been like fishing, tossing out the needed bait and hoping for a nibble. The subtle feeling of eyes upon him and that hint of trepidation were exactly what he was looking for. Once he reached the precise GPS coordinates, Alexander closed the cellphone and pocketed it easily enough.
For a moment the young man glances around, dark red eyes glowing subtly and leaving a faint trail in the air as he turns his head. But then he lifts his arms outwards and abruptly reality bursts into a torn ragged approximation of black flame exploding from his slim silhouette. It's like wisps of ichor lashing outwards and upwards, his arms rising as a bestial form seems to manifest around him, a glowing red-eyed beast that roars silently in rage, extending great rending claws of shadow outwards as waves of palpable /FEAR/ lash out around him. For an on-looker it might be as if something primal was born, the instinctive form of the beast outside the circle of light that menaced ancient man in the darkness of history.
For a time the anti-light builds, lashing, roiling… and as quickly as it appeared it stops. The power ebbing, the forms fading out of existence… leaving just that young man standing there upon the focal point of power as he turns his head just so. And listens.

***

Stone is way over yonder. Yeah there is so little chance she missed that crazy display over at the leyline she was following directions to. Well. Interesting. Surprisngly not as impacted by the FEAR as one would expect, but then she is a bit jaded in her actual old age. She does take a moment to rub the bridge of her nose there. "So .. Hydra.. Monster.. both…. none… what a pain in the ass." she stops and then looks again to confirm that the guy is still there being all a problem in her evening. He probably doesn't even have any artifacts whatever kind of demon he is.

***

It's closer now. And not small, whatever it is. Something is moving through the lines with a purpose. Right for Phobos and the unfortunate Agent Stone. A covergance of three beings that probably won't end well.

Or is it just three? After the fear-wave fades something drifts over the wind, distant but distinct. A mad, cackling laugh.

***

Glancing over his shoulder somewhat, Alexander takes notice of the laughter against the otherwise 'calm' of the night. He takes a step back, turns just enough, making sure he's not actually touching the leyline as whatever is coming comes along that particular line of power. His hands slide out of his pockets and he extends a hand to the side, focusing his attention for a moment…
A few seconds pass and then a red-scabbarded katana flickers into being in his hand, the grip being taken in his hand as he holds it to his side. It's not drawn, not yet, but he readies himself for whatever may be approaching.

***

Mystique.. ur cough.. .Agent Stone pivots at the laughter, mad and cackling. She narrows her eyes. "And now this is happening…" she mutters. She shifts herself further into shadows and crosses her arms for the moment, waiting and watching. Sure the monster's sword looks fairly useful. Maybe that could be recovered. Still for the moment more intel needed.

***

There's a rather bright flash as… people… and things that aren't people… begin to appear. All around Phobos in a loose ring, all armed with what looks like energy weapons. Mixed in with the dozen or men are ten or so very, large, monsters. Shadow beings. Radiating cold. "Alright, Power. You'll be coming with us now." A man calls out. No one's seen Stone yet.

***

Standing there amongst the armed men, looking from point to point, those glowing eyes narrow. Alexander shifts his weight almost casually to the other foot, his thumb flicking light at the guard of the katana causing a bare inch of the blade to slide free with a faint 'click'. He tilts his head just so, "I will be, where?" He asks almost casually.
Too casually.
[OOC] Phobos says casually too much!

Stone sighs "Idiot." she mutters to herself. Whether she means herself or Phobos hard to say. Mostly because well the bad guy in this scenario is hard to say. Still she is the only Magic Police Unit sanctioned on US Soil she is aware of.. so yeah. She moves along carefully, drawing her own Katana, which is a smidge magic yay for her. She circles to try to get into a better position. Notably though she is still keeping one ear out for more laughter and madness To many players.

***

Apparently that's the end of the repartee. The dark demons - four of the ten - rush in from four sides to try to trap and immobilize Phobos before the fight begins. As they do the men begin moving in, rifles raised and glowing.

And someone taps Stone on the shoulder. "Excuse me Miss, I think you dropped your wallet."

***

As quickly as that, conflict begins. While Agent Stone is procuring her wallet, the young man is beset upon by a myriad of demons.
The four of them move in quickly, each taking an angle, timed to collide at the same moment. A moment that is denied them as Phobos darts forward, meeting the charge of the monsters with a roar of his own. It's only at the last moment that the blade is fully drawn, the motion becoming a single stroke as the legendary blade Grass-Cutter slices through the waist of one of the creatures and neatly slices it in twain. He spins, the blood red sword brandishing for a moment as the other creatures pursue.
The sword blurs again, a leg falling cut cleanly free, a chest pierced…
But the last of the four is able to burst through and _slams_ hard into the young god's chest, slamming him to the ground hard enough to leave an imprint in the dirt and mud.
From afar, Phobos figures he'll eventually try to knock that guy out in the melee.

***

Stone just sighs softly and pivots and steps away all in one very, very smooth motion putting herself a bit further from whoever just tapped her on the shoulder. She has fast passed irritated by the expression "This had better be good…"

There is a man behind Agent Stone. With green hair and pale, pale skin, and a manic grin. "Oh nevermind. It's just a rock." He smirks and kicks a rock right at the Agent as he produces a butterfly knife and dives right in. Why? It's the Joker. Why not!

The mage raises his hand and four more of the beasts charge. Rather than charging Phobos though… they charge their fellow. The one who just slammed the godling. And when they get there they seem to just… absorb into it, adding their mass and power to it's own. In short order it's gotten, um, fairly large.

***

As Alexander is pressured, the more his strength grows and his expression at this point has contorted into an annoyed scowl. He slams hard up with a knee to the side of the beast, then snaps his hand up and smashes the pommel of the sword into the side of the growing creature's head. It's just enough to make it lift its head, to howl upwards, and then to have its head removed with a quick slash of the long blade.
Roughly, Phobos pushes the creature off of him, throwing it aside as those black flames and waves of power seem to emanate from him again, even as he gets to his feet, both hands clasping the katana before him as his eyes glow riotously.
"You think it would be so easy?" His voice gains an echoing reverberation, hollow, almost demonic as he growls. "To take me against my will?"
And as he says this the FEAR lashes out from him, infecting the minds of those that feel such, turning those around them into creatures resembling their phobias. No longer do they stand amongst their brethren, now they are amongst… monsters… monsters that wish them dead!
From afar, Phobos basically fearing the mooks so they shoot each other etc. Then will go for the mage guy if that's cool.

***

Well, that was not quite what Mystique was expecting. She really has no idea how the Joker is mixed up in this. She also definitely recognizes the psychopath. Still what happens now may actually surprise the Joker. Faye lifts her hand and just slaps the rock right back at his face. Then she pivots and slams her sword out and damned if she looks intent to just cut his butterflying hand to disarm him… maybe dis-hand him… she really isn't a hero after all. "This is a mistake Joker." she seems awfully calm considering who she is facing. Then again she is one of the best damn fighters in the world after decades of doing this. "Are you with those idiots over there Joker?" she seems almost curious "Or just attracted by the other idiots wave of fear eh?"

***

Bedlam errupts on the battlefield. Well, in the park rather. Suddenly everything is a target and the HYDRA capture team is shooting itself, afraid of everyhting that moves now. The demons though, those seem… well Fear is not something they understand. The head of the demon falls to the ground, the big one, and… then turns into a puttle of goop and returns to the main mass as a new one grows. "Earth-god." It breathes. "Give me your POWER!" Cold lances from it. Leaching cold tries to latch onto Phobos and suck him dry.

The Joker turns at the last moment, taking a cut to the arm as the rock skips off his collarbone as he twists. Weirdly… he doesn't seem worried about being cut. Instead he smears some of the blood on his blade and steps in closer, clicking his heels such that blades also protrude from his shoes. He cackles madly. "Oh I didn't htink you'd be this much FUN!"

***

Faye doesn't in particular have anything agaisnt the Joker. "I suppose it was to much to hope you would listen when I said a mistake." she steps one step back and then changes form. Her whole form rippling as she surges into a bit of a larger form, now she looks like a werejaguar holding the katana, cause well that is what Faye is at least. "You can't actually hurt me clownprince, and your not on my list." she goes on the offensive though sword flashing out in one hand and claws in the other now as she moves to dance around the Joker.

***

Now having a large demon to deal with, Alexander is no longer shouting or cracking wise, he's focusing on the creature and gives it a severe scowl. The blade snaps up into a guard position as he stares at it for a time, then when it dives in the weapon lashes out. The blade has an older history than Phobos himself, the sword wielded expertly as he rushes past and rolls forward trying to avoid the grasp of the monster. There's a blur of movement in that instant as he passes, the sword held forwards for a time as he executes the movement perfectly.
Alex then rounds, eyes quickly surveying the battlefield, measuring the damage the demon's suffered, but then his eyes lock upon the mage from afar. He breaks into movement again, this time heading in the conjurer's direction.

***

There's a… portal of some kind. Not a portal but a connection. From the mage to the monster. It's feeding it. And the monster itself is stitching itself back together with that power and radiating sapping cold as it makes to follow. The mage drops to his knees terrified. "No wait! Please! They'll… they threatened my family if I didn't help… I had no choice… no choice…" He babbles and sobs.

The Joker takes several more cuts and staggers back, his grin even wider. He looks at his blood on Mystique's claws and cackles. "You know the old saying right? Blood will out?" The Joker's blood is, thanks to constant exposure, laced with one of the most deadly, pernicious toxins known to most people. Joker Venom. A chemical that leaves people… in stitches.

***

Faye will narrow her feline eyes and look down at her claws and sniff a bit then oh. She lifts a clawed hand and flicks his own blood back at him. "You just aren't right Joker… not right at all." she considers the fight with the Mage and then Phobos. Then looks to Joker before pointing a claw at Phobos "How much to make him have an accident so I can have his sword?"

***

At that point there's no hesitation in Alexander's movements. He's rushing the man, several strides closing the distance. The blade comes up, then swirls around and tries to slam the pommel into the side of the man's head to steal the consciousness from him. Should that work he'll straighten up amongst the mayhem and carnage, expression dire as he looks about him even as some of the remaining soldiers shoot back and forth. He keeps the blade at the ready, watching the demonic figure and if it continues to press the attack… the portal gets the next strike from Grass-Cutter's blade.

***

The Joker actually stops fighting and considers. "Mmmmmmm…" He looks over Mystique trying to consider if this is a decent enough joke to indulge in. "An accident hrm? You'll owe ol' Mister J…" But accidents, well those happen. Especially in Go- er… New York. The mad clown produces a a vial of… something as the demon presses it's attack… and then is cut off from it's source of power. Then the Joker hauls back and throws. The vial breaks and a cloud of smoke goes up near the kneeling mage. A cloud of LSD laced smoke… "OHGODNOSPDIERS!" The man shouts and, as if by magic (fancy that) as the demon disintigrates it's mass is captured by the now panic sticken mage's magic and transformed into thousands of spiders. Which all swarm toward Phobos.

***

Faye watches the Joker chuck the via of Joker Brand LSD Smoke Bomb. She lightly sniffs the air and then takes a step back and waits her sword ready. "Well.. it is definitely a start maybe… not sure if he will be eaten by spiders or not though… and also damn…spiders really?"

***

The vial shatters, gas hisses out, and the mage flips out as the sudden explosive trip from the concentrated LSD sends him on a wild mental ride, snapping back to the here and now. The swordsman standing beside the fallen mage scowls, looking to the side as suddenly the dying demon becomes a nightmarish charging mass of vermin, creatures scuttling like some sentient mass of monstrosity.
And then Alexander slams the pommel of the blade into the mage's head again, ending all resistance for now.
Once those nightmarish creatures begin to fade, the man hefts the body over his shoulder, the blade in the free hand. Then out of that smoke he emerges, eyes glowing, features grim… and looking like he didn't get the joke at all.

***

In the space between when the spiders appear and Faye looks to stare at them… the Joker just vanishes. Good trick that. Maybe he picked it up from Batsy. The creatures fade, of course, the moment that the man goes unconscious. In fact, he flops over like a landed fish. Out. Phobos will get to question him. Whether the man's family survivies his failure… is another question.

***

Well Faye should probably stay and act like an agent. Still she has sort of lost her patience for the whole situation and will writeup a report full of the bullshit she saw tonight. They love this stuff back in HQ.

So when the young god steps from the smoke, well Joker isn't the only one missing. Nope. It may be disappointing but yeah Ninja-vanish.
