Biography

Laura Kinney, aka X-23, is a female clone created by an off-shoot of the Weapon X project called 'The Facility'. She was raised to be the perfect killing machine, trained from birth in armed & unarmed combat, and subjected to brainwashing and horrific experimentation. The experiments were intended to forcefully activate her mutation and to give The Facility a means of controlling her. They also surgically removed her claws, sharped them before grafting Adamantium to them and re-implanting them into her body.

Her training was so harsh that she was made to kill any of her tutors who showed even the slighest hint of kindness. Her performance was so exceptional that The Facility soon began charging exorbitant fees for her services, sending her into the field to assassinate high profile targets.

And then everything changed. X-23 was taken from the lab for an unsanctioned rescue mission, discovered the truth about The Facility and ended up destroying everything in the lab she had lived in her entire life. Including the genetic samples, all the research, the scientists and unfortunately even Sarah Kinney - the woman who was in essence her mother.

In her final act Sarah Kinney told X-23 her name was Laura, said she loved her and gave her what little information she could about a safe place for mutants.

The strain of killing her own mother was almost too much for Laura. She spent most of her teenage years on the run, living on the street and doing anything to avoid detection by The Facility. Several times they almost caught up to Laura and she was forced to fight her way free.

Until eventually she picked up a strangely familiar scent. She followed the trail back to a school in Westchester filled with mutants and, after a period of careful observation, she made herself known to the people inside. The X-men cautiously accepted Laura, giving her a place to call home and beginning the difficult process of teaching her to be more than just a living weapon.

X-23, now going by the name of Laura Kinney full time, now splits her time between trying to help the X-men find and protect mutants and in her own personal quest to put an end to The Facility and any other projects like it.

+-[ Personality ]-------------+

Laura is a quiet, introspective young woman who struggles to express complex emotions. To her friends she's loyal and awkwardly considerate. She enjoys physical activity and seeks perfection in everything she does. To anyone she considers an enemy Laura is relentless and without mercy. She finds the very notion of slavery or any sort of confinement of innocent people abhorrent and has little moral or ethical problem ensuring that people who engage in such activities are stopped - typically permenantly.

Despite her tendancy towards violence and the damage caused by her upbringing Laura feels a lot of guilt for the innocent people she's harmed and she fears that perhaps she'll never be anything more than a killer. But despite her fear she still pushes herself to go out into the world to try make a difference, even if that means killing more people, because she would rather damn herself than see other people suffer the same cruel upbringing she went through.
