Too much. Always too much. She roasts her brother, races cars in VR, sasses most every authority figure, and generally works hard to live her life on her own terms despite her responsibilities to brother and country. She is the most modern member of her family, and where her brother appears taciturn despite possessing great depth of emotion, Shuri shows great volume of emotion to match her brilliance and depth of character. She is thoroughly devoted to Wakanda and its people, but she also has a fascination with the outside world sufficient that she supports greater openness with it. Still, she is intensely critical of all flaws: of the outside world, of her beloved brother, and especially — though relatively quietly — of herself.
Brilliance |
Shuri is hands-down one of the most brilliant human beings in the world. She equals or surpasses her brother in quickness of mind and adeptness with science, technology, strategy, logic, and reason. She is witty and clever as well, and though her disposition is more cheerful than her brother's, she is no less intelligent — and, when the necessity arises, no less serious. Her expertise in invention goes beyond her design of her brother's Panther habit: she has spearheaded the technological advancement of Wakanda for several years now, developing inventions from the sonic emitters that dampen vibranium's effects to medical machines that can repair spinal cord damage and return patients from the brink of death. |
Royal Upbringing |
Shuri has been raised with all the advantages a princess could have. She has wanted for nothing and had every opportunity—and she has made the most of this. Though she is princess of Wakanda, not queen, she has been raised with the knowledge that rulership may one day pass on to her. As a result, she is also adept at politics and diplomacy as well as the other practical skills of leadership. Should the aegis of queenship pass to her, she is well-prepared to lead, both as a traditional figurehead and a modern politician. |
Memelord |
Unlike the rest of her family (and indeed the rest of her nation), Shuri is a thoroughly modern Wakandan. Of course she's deeply versed with Wakandan culture, but she's also extremely comfortable and familiar with modern pop culture. She knows her memes better than KnowYourMeme. She knows what's hot and what's not. She's a Millennial inventor princess, and she understands every inch of what that means. |
Combat |
Wakanda's primary focuses are on science and warfare, and its royal family is expected to be well versed in both. Shuri learned how to fight not long after she learned to walk. She is highly adept with hand-to-hand and handheld weapons combat as well as ranged energy weapons like sonic spears and power gauntlets. |
Piloting |
Shuri is an adept driver and pilot, particularly using her VR setup back in the Golden City. She is equally capable behind the actual wheel of a car or the throttle of a jet, though her VR setup allows her to be effectively anywhere at any time. |
Wakandan Royalty |
As the sister of the king, Shuri has not only great political power but also great symbolic, even religious power in Wakanda. The royal family are not quite worshiped as deities, but they are loved and trusted by their people and traditionally rule with divine right. As such, Shuri is second only to her brother in her ability to use any and all resources of the immensely advanced nation. |
Technology |
Shuri is a magnificent inventor, particularly when it comes to the manifold uses of vibranium, and her resources are almost unparalleled. Wakandan technology focuses primarily on the many uses of vibranium for science and warfare (the latter primarily as defense, but no weapon, not even the shield, is entirely defensive), but Shuri has access to just about any kind of technology imaginable. Generally, however, it's mostly in Wakanda. As long as she has access to Wakanda and its resources, she can call just about anything to bear. At the moment, however, she's generally making use of a smaller subset of inventions. These include neurally-linked drones that take the form of black birds, holographic imagery, and her own armor modeled after pending experimental upgrades for her brother's habit. Shuri herself is a polymath, and in her short life she has engineered medical devices that can bring a person back from the point of death or permanent disability, VR-piloted vehicles, and lightweight woven armor that stores kinetic energy and allows its release in a burst. |
Diplomatic Immunity |
As a member of the Wakandan royal family, Shuri enjoys diplomatic immunity when visiting other countries. It doesn't mean that she can flout the law without repurcussionsin fact, the fallout might be all the greaterbut she is granted a certain latitude as a foreign dignitary. |
Suit |
On the rare occasions that Shuri needs to suit up and go fight in person, she's thoroughly prepared. She has developed a suit of personal armor with many of the same features as T'Challa's. These features include adamantium claws with a vibranium core, vibranium weave fabric that is both flexible and incredibly protective, night vision, and the ability to scale sheer surfaces. She has added power gauntlets that can fire a devastating electrical charge |
Arrogance |
Self-confidence can easily cross the line into arrogance, and Shuri is not immune to this. She is confident in her self-worth… perhaps too much so. Shuri could stand to learn a little humility… it's just hard to do when you're a literal genius princess. |
Responsibility |
For all that she's a very young and politically inexperienced lady, Shuri is also royalty. She loves her people and her country, even believing she should hold her brother's position, and as a member of Wakandan royalty there are certain expectations for her. She has the same sorts of outsized expectations for herself as any other brilliant person, and she adds her entire legacy to that. For being tremendously overconfident, not only is Shuri quietly intensely self-critical, she is also criticized by the nation she loves. |
Self-Doubt |
Deep inside, Shuri holds the same self-doubt as any other high-achieving person. She receives a great deal of criticism from some elders of Wakanda, and she can't help taking it to heart sometimes. When she fails, her failures are that much greater, and her successes pack less emotional punch because they are to be expected from someone like her. For all that she must prove herself to Wakanda, it's much harder proving her worth to herself. |
