Mercenary back from the dead as the chosen agent of Khonshu
Reputation
Marc Spector is a former Marine turned mercenary, although he's mostly retired these days. If you have a problem, and no one else can help, and you can find him, maybe you can hire him.
Steven Grant is a millionaire entrepreneur with an eye for shrewd investment. You probably can't afford his services.
Jake Lockley is a NYC taxi driver - one of thousands, but he'll get you where you need to go. He's definitely affordable, and he charges by the quarter-mile.
Moon Knight is a costumed vigilante who claims to be the agent of Khonshu, an ancient Egyptian deity.
Biography
Marc Spector was a rabbi's son from Chicago who pursued a career as a heavyweight boxer, then as a Marine, and finally as a mercenary, searching for purpose. He found none until an ill-fated job in Egypt. Another merc, Raoul Bushman, attacked Marc's group in an effort to loot a newly discovered temple.
Being left for dead, Marc found himself face to face with Khonshu, the Egyptian god of the moon. Khonshu offered to bring Marc back to life in exchange for the man becoming the god's agent on Earth. He accepted, rising from the dead and garbing himself in the shroud hung over Khonshu's statue in the temple. Taking revenge on Bushman, Marc from that point onward became known as the Moon Knight, the fist of Khonshu.
Since that time, Marc has worked to realize Khonshu's plans, fighting crime and helping others in the process. However, two other personas have asserted themselves in Marc - Steven Grant and Jake Lockley - and, alongside Moon Knight, work with and against the rest of Marc's cluster of identities. Khonshu occasionally exerts itself in Marc's life as well, directing Moon Knight's actions, but so have various friends and acquaintances concerned with Marc's mental and emotional well-being.
Character Details
Marc Spector is a man of many faces that wax and wane like the cycles of the moon. At differing times and for differing purposes, he may be Marc Spector, mercenary-for-hire; he may assume the guise of Steven Grant, an enterprising entrepreneur who moves in elite circles; or he may wear the face of Jake Lockley, a down-and-dirty cab driver at home on the mean streets of NYC.
The Moon Knight also assumes several personas, from that of a costumed and caped hero seeking to bring justice to the world to that of a masked investigator and consultant 'Mister Knight'. At times he is a compassionate and helpful figure; at others, he is cold and vengeful - frequently in contrast to the demeanor of his deity Khonshu (or perhaps Khonshu assumes a demeanor in contrast to his own).
Martial Artist |
Before he enlisted as a Marine, Marc was a heavyweight boxer and spent considerable time on the professional circuit. During and after his time in the military, Marc has familiarized himself with a variety of martial arts from kung fu to judo to savate. While he is not the equal of someone like Shang-Chi or Lady Shiva, Marc can hold his own - if not come out ahead - against most human opponents. |
Taxi Driver |
Marc has logged hundreds of hours as a New York taxi driver. He can recall and navigate to almost anywhere in the five boroughs—useful not only for important missions but also for getting quickly to the best Thai joint in town in the middle of rush hour. |
Enhanced Physique |
Marc acquired a number of enhanced physical features as a result of agreeing to serve Khonshu. These include heightened stamina, strength, and reflexes that allow him to lift nearly a thousand pounds or exert himself continuously for several hours. However, the extent to which Marc's body is "superhuman" aligns with the lunar cycle, so that during a new moon he is only slightly tougher, faster, and stronger than a normal human. |
Khonshu's Chosen |
As the servant of Khonshu, Moon Knight frequently calls on (and has the ability to interact with) his god for assistance, whether physical, motivational, or informative. Khonshu does not always respond positively to his agent's requests; however, Khonshu also maintains contact with Marc when he wants or needs Moon Knight to act - and Marc can choose whether to meet those demands, although refusing may cause Khonshu to temporarily withdraw the physical benefits he has shared with Marc or to activate other agents to realize his agenda. |
Weapons And Equipment |
Moon Knight has, at his disposal, a wide variety of crime-fighting equipment - from crescent-shaped darts and throwing weapons to a much larger crescent-shaped jet-powered glider with its own voice-control system. Occasionally, Moon Knight employs weapons and tools that less closely follow the theme, such as bolas, a combination truncheon/grappling-hook gun, and a voice-controlled limousine. He also possesses a suit of carbonadium-reinforced armor that further enhances his endurance. |
Military Training |
As a former Marine and a mercenary, Marc is trained and well-versed in (among other skills) marksmanship, close-quarters combat, first aid, survival, and military tactics. |
Dissociative Identity Disorder |
Marc's mind is fractured - whether it's due to dissociate identity disorder (DID) or the intrusive presence of Khonshu inside (or acting through) him, it's potentially impossible to say. In either case, Marc's ability to exist in the world is compromised. If he attempted to lead a normal life, that would be challenging enough to cope with. Because Marc is also the Moon Knight, a figure whose purpose is ostensibly to help others by serving the will of an ancient Egyptian god, his mental instability threatens every relationship in his life and every encounter he has with others (friends and strangers alike). |
Enemies Of Khonshu |
As an agent of a particular Egyptian god, Moon Knight is frequently targeted by - or otherwise finds himself put at odds with - the agents of rival deities (or, in some rare cases, the deities themselves). So long as he remains a faithful servant of Khonshu, Moon Knight must be ready for the inevitable conflict that might come from any angle to defeat him and his master. |
Khonshu |
Khonshu is a fickle deity whose temperament changes like the moon. While he has generally supported Moon Knight as his agent, Khonshu has on a number of occasions been at odds with Marc's actions, disrupting the man's work with little to no explanation. While at times this has been revealed as a longer plan come to fruition, just as often it has remained inexplicable or baffling or outright maddening to Marc, leaving him confused and feeling (at times) abandoned or condemned by his god to fail. |
