Biography

Born to a casino owner in Macau, formerly a Portugese territorial claim in southeastern China, due west of Hong Kong and located on an island. Jun Yin, Yin to his friends, was raised in business and gambling theory, but took after his mother, a quarter-Portugese brothel madam raised in Tong tradition. He could've been a successful entrepreneur, inheriting the family business, but as the child behind a sister and older than two brothers, he was a natural leader that also excelled socially and used women as allies, while protecting his younger siblings. He allowed his brothers to take over the casino, while his older sister became a famous screenwriter. As for Yin, he took to computer technology, learning how to assemble and repair computers at a very young age, considered a prodigy with hardware systems. And then, came the software.

Yin became a computer expert, graduating from his private academy in the People's Republic of China at the top of his class and attending MIT in the United States. He worked as an intern in a military technology firm related to internet software and cybersecurity, developing breach software for the United States government. What he did not realize is that Sebastian Shaw owned this company, and had taken notice of him. He was quietly moved to Hong Kong after being hired fulltime, and was inducted in the Triads with his mother's support.

Given the name 'Lucky', because of his background in gambling, and his skill at poker which some suspected was not pure math but rather manipulation, Lucky Yin began to break into data systems for the Triads, stealing secrets from various multinationals operating in Hong Kong for a variety of reasons. Sometimes, blackmail, othertimes, corporate espionage, othertimes, for hits and retaliations for international units, across the world. When Lucky Yin had proven himself, he was offered the chance of a lifetime: work as an associate in the Hellfire Club. He was given the opportunity to design cybernetic computer components for his own personal use, to turn himself into the ultimate digital thief. He accepted gladly, which earned his fealty to the Hellfire Club. A gambler doesn't seek money if he is a true professional, he merely seeks the pleasure of the game, the thrill of anxiety mixed with adrenaline at every roll.

And that is the way he wins.

Character Details

Yin, at first glance, may seem like a deliberate facsimile personality, a human with no emotions or affect posing as another, or if one catches him in the right situation, a predictable but secretive corporate drone. In fact, he is a highly skilled gambling expert at heart, with the ability to hide his emotions beneath a stiff veneer of calculated emotional responses, using the Daoist philosophy of linking one's external muscle reactions with one's internal mood, to wire himself together. He does this because of his childhood anxiety, which he responded to by studying others instead of sublimating his reactions into manipulations with others. He prefers to control himself rather than others, something taught to him by his father, a casino operator and businessman.

The use of creature comforts, indulged in with moderation unless he's been broken by an event, are from his mother, a Triad of high breeding that taught him how to keep himself alive in stressful situations, with simple Pavlov. An indulgence such as a culinary treat, or a glass of fine wine, or the purchase of a bauble for the favorable eye of a lover, these are the ends to which he rewards his temptation towards seeking danger as an end to his social anxiety. And this social anxiety ultimately emerged from his Portugese blood, in a private academy boarding school in China, far away from his family.

Lucky Yin has the standard data collection habit of a highly successful academic, insisting on doing extensive research and committing it to memory in everything he does. He pursues side projects, however, for his own pleasure, a common trait in a computer science expert, particularly one that is involved as an inventor of applied sciences. He lacks the high function procrastination of a theoretician, making him beholden to the Triads that worked their way from the bottom from a lowlier background, but knows not to disrespect them, for they are his entire lifeblood. Instead, he uses his skills at observation to arm them with ammunition to use later, against potential traitors. He does this merely out of courtesy, since it makes good practice to have familiar bedfellows.
